Given that there's no good evidence that St George even existed (let alone that he was saintly), it's a great shame that he remains England's patron saint. Knowing how influential Jetpunk is on the World stage, perhaps I could start a debate here as to who should be a suitable alternative. Many possibilities spring to mind who would be admirably qualified for the "job" - Cuthbert, Thomas a Beckett, Bede but my proposal would be St Alban, the first British martyr.
How interesting! And it's always good to spark a healthy debate. I hadn't heard of Bede or Cuthbert, and it is hard to argue with Alban. The only one I can conjure is St Edward (the confessor). Then again maybe the idea St George represents is more meaningful, even if he's not the best candidate in a technical sense.
