Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

Give me liberty, or give me death!

I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.

That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman?

Our motto is: when they go low, we go high. With every word we utter, with every action we take, we know our kids are watching us. We as parents are their most important role models.

At a time when there are so many issues on which we find it difficult to reach a common basis of agreement, it is a significant fact that 58 states have found such a large measure of agreement in the complex field of human rights. This must be taken as testimony of our common aspiration...to lift men everywhere to a higher standard of life and to a greater enjoyment of freedom.

What, to the American slave, is your Fourth of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelly to which he is the constant victim.

Once they are aroused, once they are determined, nothing on earth and nothing in heaven will make women give way; it is impossible.

I consider it an indispensable duty to close the last solemn act of my official life, by commending the interests of our dearest country to the protection of almighty god, and those who have the superintendence of them, to his holy keeping.

When you have a father and a mother who work all their lives so you can have an education and build your body -- it's a blessing.
