1977. This song is from this rocker from Florida's debut album. Rolling Stone ranked it his greatest song. It did not chart in the US until rereleased in the 90s, but was a hit in the UK. It was the last song he performed in concert before dying one week later in 2017. The song was recorded on July 4, 1976. There's an urban legend the song is about a college student jumping from a dorm room window. The artist says it's not true. A lyric mirrors a line from a Francis Ford Coppola film, Dementia 13.
