Users frequently complain that JetPunk is too "U.S. centric". Free yourself from the global hegemon! Try to guess these countries that don't have a U, S, or A anywhere in their name.
No, we didn't. The Government has adopted "Czechia" as an acceptable substitute to be used in official capacities, in the hopes of making the name more acceptable to tourists, but "Czech Republic" the proper, legal name.
I mean, the official name of many countries isn't what we use, do you say "United Kingdom" or "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" for instance?
Fair criticism isn't whingeing. Quizzes about world history, for example, usually have more questions about the USA than any other country, even though it's a young nation with relatively little history to its name.
It says in the description of the quiz that this quiz was made because they find JetPunk to be too "U.S. centric", which quite frankly I agree with. I don't see half as many quizzes about the United Kingdom. If you want to make one, go ahead, though it wouldn't be as hard since not THAT many countries use the letter "K". Also, even if you did make a quiz like this but with the U.K., there aren't just two countries you know. ;) If you wanted this to be "fair" then we need 196 "Countries Free From X" quizzes.
I made this quiz back in 2017, when I did not know much of JetPunk, so it wasn't made to make a point about US-Centric. It just took 3 years to catch the eye of QM and feature it :)
Clever idea. Thankful you had the continents listed or I would have wasted time just working my way mentally through each one. I had Mexico and Belize before I even hit the start button. Glad I didn't have to rule out every Caribbean island nation before moving on to South America!
@qatari a better phrase is jetpunk uses Ivory Coast. Using the word official in that sentence gives the false impression Ivory Coast is the official name (instead of Côte d'Ivoire.)
Excellent idea! Thoroughly enjoyed taking this quiz, but for the shortage of time. My brain needs more time to gel and slip through the furniture of my mind. Another couple of minutes would be appreciated.
The quiz says it only uses official Jetpunk English names. Just like how on most quizzes, UK is accepted for United Kingdom or Czechia is accepted for Czech Republic, Congo is accepted for both the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but Congo is not the official Jetpunk English name for either of those countries.
It was harder than it looked and missed Montenegro like most people. I cannot believe how many people have queried why certain countries have been omitted from the list despite clearly having either a U, S or A in them. I couldn't understand why a couple of my efforts were not accepted but realised that I must have been wrong, which I was
What I liked about this quiz is it was a fun way to acknowledge that many feel JetPunk is too US centric.Love Jetpunk but this is true. Sport is a particularly frustrating section as nobody outside the US has any idea about the NBA, NFL, Baseball. Still the best quiz site out there though.
As for the quiz itself, a good idea but a lot of flaws as already pointed out.
It's bloody well hilarious reading these comments. I loved one saying "What about Burundi?" and someone answered (I'm paraphrasing) "It's happily in Africa where it's always been, along with its two "U"s."
Made many of the same errors others have already identified above, but what about Cote d'Ivoire? I have seen the French version of the country's name used often in other quizzes, or have the standards shifted?
I went to budva
Togo's own website: https://www.republicoftogo.com/
BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14106781
Encyclopaedia Britannica: https://www.britannica.com/place/Togo
But I take your point, and great idea for a quiz.
(Don't think you could completely escape these kinds of comments :)
dr congo?
As for the quiz itself, a good idea but a lot of flaws as already pointed out.
RepUblic of the Congo
Those are the official names and show up as such even when Congo is typed in as an answer.

That should be in this list.
Thanks!
