It will have been Ancient Greek - part of the standard classical education - rather than modern Greek.

It's unlikely that Madison spoke Hebrew, since it was only revived as a spoken language in the 1900s. He might have known how to *read* Hebrew, or possibly speak Yiddish. But at the time, Hebrew was only a written language, not a spoken one.

That's very likely the case with all of the Greek and Latin, also. "Spoken" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
