The source uses something called Gini coefficients. If you want to check out what the formula is check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gini_coefficient (It's pretty boring).

I'd always thought that Central America was a sub-continent technically part of South America. Turns out it's usually not seen that way. So changed.

continents are arbitrarily distinguished from one another but... if you're going to split the Americas in two then Central America is definitely part of North America. Sometimes North American maps only include the US, Canada, and Mexico; sometimes it includes everything down to Panama; but South American maps never include Central America.

Interesting quiz. I've seen all the figures before and even without the clues would have known almost all the answers were in Africa and Central/South America. I thought I'd read before that the US had the greatest disparity of any "developed" nation.. so I'm surprised to see Denmark and Switzerland doing so well in the rankings. Finally... Congo = CAR? I think this is the first quiz I've taken that accepted that.

Thanks Kalba. I was really surprised to see Switzerland on the list... and staggered to see Denmark there. But there you go. As to Congo... well you typed in CAR so... Trying to be helpful.

When you type in "Congo", Central African Republic comes up. These are two very different Countries!

Thanks CH... you're absolutely correct. I'll fix. Interestingly enough both the Congos rank WAY down the Gini list.

You gotta recheck your numbers cause they are certainly wrong. Denmark on this list? I lol'd! Denmark has the lowest gini coefficient in the world.

I was really surprised too OJ. But I'm afraid you're gonna have to take it up with Wikipedia. That's what they're saying.

I realized afterwards that we were talking about wealth inequality which is something very, very different from income inequality. This article explains it very well, using Sweden as an example (low income gini, high wealth gini). The numbers on Wikipedia are more than a decade old and not a lot of the countries from this list would make it on a new list using new numbers. Finding a reliable source for such numbers seems very difficuilt though, so I wouldn't expect you to be succesful trying to do so, since I wasn't.

Good on you OJ! Most people just want to complain... but you followed this one up really well. Yeah, I came across the same problem. But I wanted to do this quiz... and you work with what you've got, right? :)

I'm sure if you look hard enough you could probably find some (inaccurate) source that listed the USA as #1. I know you want to.
