Movies Based on a True Story #4

Can you identify these films based on actual events?
"Based" on a true story doesn't mean the movie was non-fictional
Uses the paradigm established in previous front-page quizzes that if something in the film happened, that makes it based on a true story

Before anyone complains... I included some of these as a bit of a joke.

On previous front-page versions of this quiz there were films such as 8 Mile and Titanic, which I don't think count as "based on a true story."

It's my opinion that "based on a true story" means that the story of the film, i.e. the main characters in it and the things that they do, are at least supposed to be real. This is the "story." The protagonists and their struggle.

8 Mile is "inspired by a true story." It takes some things that happened to Eminem and incorporates them into a story about a fictional character "Rabbit" who grew up in the same area. Psycho and Jaws are films inspired by true stories. The story and characters are fictional though inspired by real events. Surprisingly to some, Life of Brian is another film that could be said to be "inspired by a true story" as there were a lot of Jewish messiahs running around and being executed in 1st century Palestine.

Titanic is "historical fiction." The main characters Jack and Rose are totally made up, as is their story, but that story takes place in front of the backdrop of a real historical event (the maiden voyage of the Titanic). The sinking boat is not the story. Jack and Rose are the story. The sinking boat is just the setting.

Similarly, the male-dominated newsrooms of 1970s San Diego did exist, and this is the setting of the film Anchorman, but every character in that film is fictional.

World War 2 happened. The Americans did fight the Nazis. But there were no super soldiers named Steve Rogers with vibranium shields on the American side, and no crimson skull-headed villains on the Nazi side, but the backdrop of the story is real enough. Captain America is the same as Titanic. Historical fiction. Or maybe, since it doesn't even attempt to be realistic, historical fantasy would be more accurate. This is different from a film "based on a true story."

"based on a true story" ≠ "inspired by a true story" ≠ "historical fiction"

But on this quiz they are treated as the same to be consistent with previous installments.
