Coffee is a cash crop generally grown in developing countries for export. It's cheaper for countries like the US to buy foreign coffee than grow their own, plus what Sulps said about needing certain climates.

I got everything except for New Guinea. China and USA are vast countries and not bad guesses but just don't have many areas in the correct latitude for coffee production.

I was really surprised that Vietnam was in second place, producing more than twice as much as Colombia (third place).
