Nice one - I never really appreciated how far and wide Kiribati spreads until I took this quiz. Many of these aren't dependencies, but I guess that's as good a single word as any to group them all together! For example, Tokelau and American Samoa are territories, Easter Island is a part of Chile proper (like the Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands), and the Cook Islands and Niue are countries outright in free association with New Zealand (the same way that Palau and the Marshall Islands are in free association with the US). It might be an interesting quiz to match statuses to "dependencies"!

Yes the word "dependency" is used loosely to mean anything between a sovereign independent country to an integral part of another country (e.g. Hawaii, Canary Islands). Easter Island has been given the status of "special territory" since 2007 and therefore included in this quiz, and the distance from Chile is not measured from Easter Island.
