Chittagong is now officially known as Chattogram. But Chittagong will be in use for a while yet

Another nice quiz! Hanoi? 6 million when I was there last year, although citypopulation.de says only 2.9 mil, which must be some admin boundary that doesn't take the contiguous urban area into account.

Yes, I thought it would be on the list. I also thought of Mashhad but it seems to be a bit short... the numbers on wikipedia are absurd though, giving a city population inferior to the metro population.

The city population has to be lower than the metro population

Wikipedia is a joke when it comes to statistics. Any buffoon can edit it and, notably, population densities are calculated atrociously. The figures are often given per square kilometer when glaringly having been divided by square mile or worse divided twice by the 2.56 factor that differentiates the two. The site is a laughfest for accuracy. Go to a real government source.

Please no, it's better without the countries given. We don't want it to be too easy, now do we?

I agree, otherwise it would just be a quiz on naming the second biggest cities.

I thought Berlin would be in the list because according to Citypopulation it's the second biggest urban area of Germany, with 4.35 million inhabitants.

Please also allow the spelling Jidda(h).

When I check, citypopulation gives Berlin as the largest with 'only' 3.4 million.

That's city proper though. The largest urban area in Germany is the Rhine-Ruhr area.

If you ask me Hamburg should be on the list. It has the second largest urban area when looking at a single big city + its urban area and not a few major ones in a combined urban area like Duisburg/Essen/Bochum/Dortmund (Ruhr) or Cologne/Düsseldorf. No German will ever say that Berlin is not the biggest city. Then again I'm sure some of the other cities urban Areas include other major cities but don't get to be mentioned.
