citypopulation.de, and it doesn't appear there. Its urban area is 0.75 million according to Wikipedia.

Just as Washington DC written as Washington could be confused with the state, New York City written as New York could have the same effect.

The reason that New York doesn't appear here is that it has seven letters. That's the official name of that city, folks.
