Barbecue is often abbreviate BBQ, but I agree that barbeque isn't a legitimate spelling.

I've seen it spelled as barbeque and the Grammarist lists it as a secondary spelling. http://grammarist.com/spelling/barbecue-barbeque/ A local restaurant spells it bar-b-que. Sorry to see you removed it. We always need a little controversy here. :)

No need to bow to peer pressure if you're not wrong! If you look it up, you'll see that barbeque is a less common, but valid variant of barbecue.
