What about ravens, whales, and parrots? I'm not sure how close they are to the top ten, but they are extremely intelligent animals, and I'd think they beat out squirrels and rats.

Gorillas? They taught one sign language and it proved to be very bright. Lying, grieving showing empathy and creating new words. Also all great apes really.

What in the world is a padgeon? Is that just a severely botched spelling of 'pigeon'? Also, I thought I remembered hearing that sheep were some of the dumbest animals in the world. What list did you go off of?

"Pidgeon" has been a spelling for "pigeon" at times in the past, but is very seldom used today. The oldest bird book in my personal library is copyrighted 1847, and even in that old book, it's "pigeon." I also have a dictionary that is over 60 years old, and in that dictionary, the spelling "pidgeon" is listed as obsolete.

Also, I'd say that crows and ravens belong on the list. Raccoons and foxes are also worthy of consideration. Sheep? I'd say that a goat would be smarter than a sheep, in my experience with these animals!
