I love the quiz, but I think the map needs a check box to include micro nations, like the Countries of the World Quiz. It's difficult to identify nations like Monaco, Andorra, etc.
226 total CHARACTERS excluding spaces which quiz master doesn't count - can you beat this???
Indonesia (9), Brunei (6), Laos (4), India (5), China (5), North Korea (10), Uzbekistan (10), Armenia (7), Iraq (4), UAE (3), Oman (4), Syria (5), Libya (5), Ethiopia (8), Malawi (6), South Africa (11), DRC (3), Cameroon (8), Togo (4), Guinea (6), Senegal (7), Spain (5), Italy (5), Greece (6), Serbia (6), Austria (7), Germany (7), UK (2), Ukraine (7), Latvia (6), Sweden (6), France (6), Brazil (6), Costa Rica (9), Peru (4), Guatemala (9), Haiti (5),Haiti, USA (3).
Note I didn't use RUSSIA (which touch 15 countries, including itself - we can do it without Russia - but go ahead and see if you can use less characters using Russia and post here.)
100% with 28 seconds to spare. 39 countries used. Suggest improvements.
My List:-
AFRICA:- (11)

AMERICA:- (6)
Usa, Guatemala, Costarica, Peru, Brazil, Haiti.

ASIA:- (11)
Russia, China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Southkorea, Uzbekistan, Iran, Israel, Saudiarabia
What is the best score?
Geography Geek had a good question. It seems that Qatar is being filled in through entering UAE, but that shouldn't work. Saudi Arabia is not on the list and that is Qatar's only border, no?
222 characters:
uk ukraine serbia greece italy france germany austria spain sweden russia iran syria saudiarabia india indonesia malaysia laos kyrgystan libya ethiopia drc southafrica southkorea malawi guinea togo senegal cameroon usa guatamala costarica brazil peru haiti
Indonesia (9), Brunei (6), Laos (4), India (5), China (5), North Korea (10), Uzbekistan (10), Armenia (7), Iraq (4), UAE (3), Oman (4), Syria (5), Libya (5), Ethiopia (8), Malawi (6), South Africa (11), Congo (5), Cameroon (8), Togo (4), Guinea (6), Senegal (7), Spain (5), Italy (5), Greece (6), Serbia (6), Austria (7), Germany (7), UK (2), Ukraine (7), Latvia (6), Sweden (6), France (6), Brazil (6), Costa Rica (9), Peru (4), Guatemala (9), Haiti (5),Haiti, USA (3). This makes 231 characters but with congo instead of drc you can get gabon without something else being typed in
Speaking to fellow crazy typists, when you've nailed it a few times and you're getting bored, try it blind, no reference to the map. This really is a good exercise in geographic visualizing.
my tactic went great i perfected the test with 2 seconds to spare hehe i started with asia the moved to europe then africa then the americas, also it is nessesary to type in the countries with green marks on them if they still have yellow marks beside it will also be counted
Not anymore :). But seriously, Mongolia comes that early on in the list because it is in between two superpowers that are a) really large, and b) really well known. Mongolia turns green whenever either Russia or China are guessed, which appears to be 95% of the time.
I start with Indonesia, North Korea, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the DRC. For South America, all you need to type in is Brazil and Peru. Honduras gets a lot of Latin America, than USA and Mexico. Then just choose countries located a short distance from each other in Africa, Europe and Asia.
Typing "Congo" gets you 12 countries, because it gives all countries that border either of the Congos! The only problem is that you have to type in "Equatorial Guinea" because no countries are left that border it, which is a bit cumbersome.
i find your comment so funny hahahha i love this quiz so i understand why you played this again after a whole year (you probably play often as i do, dont you ?) ^_^
Missed Brunei and Liechtenstein. I had 10+ seconds to spare at the end but spent it squinting at the map to see where I missed something. Watch out for those microstates, they're real killers.
Sri Lanka was once connected by a bridge, but now it's just a bunch of stones in the water. It's not connected per se, but still kind of, as you could probably get there by walking if you really want to.
i had 2 sec, i looked, saw equatorial guinea, i was like, no way, so i paused, copies the name, and pasted it with 1 sec to go, idk if its cheating but, lucky thinking
Think you know the countries like the back of your hand? Try seeing if you can list them in reverse alphabetical order with my new quiz, Countries of the World Z-A: https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/284204/countries-of-the-world-z-a
Took me like five tries ... I kept forgetting different ones. Monaco ... Brunei ... Qatar ... it all depends which one that you can't see you forgot to touch with another name.
Very challenging, good time setting, I think.
Oh my word... After seven or something tries I finally got it :D
My scores were 146, 142, 155, 156, 156, 155, and then FINALLY I got gambia and liechtenstein immediately to get 157.
this is a fantastic idea and a very entertaining quiz, thank you! May I just have one very nitpicking comment? In the instructions, it should not say that states "without borders" are not included - every state by definition must have borders, otherwise it would not be a state. It should say "states not sharing land borders with any other state". Natural borders and sea borders are still borders (: Thank you!

Oh gosh, not this again. At low tide, Sri Lanka and India have a land border, but at high tide, Sri Lanka is an island. Some quizzes say Sri Lanka is an island, but some quizzes say it borders India.
finished it with 3 seconds left. I start USA guatemala costa rica ecuador chile brasil then mali guinea, gambia gabon malwi ghana benin CAR and Congo ethiopia then libya and south africa then israel then south korea brunei indonesia russia laos india kyrgystan iran saudi
Europe is a bit tricky . So i start with austria coz it borders leichenstein then slovenia slovakia and serbia, italy (vatican and san marino) france (monaco) UK SPAIN sweden/
Countries that you must include:
Malaysia (Brunei and Singapore)
Indonesia (Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea)
South Korea
India (Sri Lanka)
Tajikistan
France (Monaco)
Germany (Denmark)
Austria (Liechtenstein)
Italy (San Marino, Vatican City)
Gabon (Equatorial Guinea)
Gambia
Haiti (Dominican Republic)
UK (Ireland)
Saudi Arabia (Qatar, UAE, Yemen, Oman, Kuwait)
For South America, simply Brazil and Peru will cover that continent.
Hope this helps
Heres how you do it
usa, Belize, haiti, honduras, panama, Brazil, peru for Americas
russia, Sweden, germany, france, uk, spain, italy, austria, serbia, greece. moldova for Europe
saudi arabia, israel, iran, kyrgystan, india, laos, china, South Korea, indonesia, Malaysia for Asia
South Africa, Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Libya, Liberia, Senegal and few others for Africa
Here is how I do it: Type in USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Brazil, Peru, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Congo, Ethiopia, Algeria, Guinea, Ghana, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Albania, Croatia, Greee, Ukraine, UK, Sweden, Russia, China, India, Thailand, North Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia
I used (Indonesia, North Korea, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Congo, Brazil, Peru, Honduras, USA, Mexico, Mozambique, South Africa, Panama, Haiti, Germany, UK, Spain, Sweden, Italy, India, Cambodia, Tajikistan,Israel, Libya, Ethiopia, Gabon, Senegal, Liberia, Togo, Niger, Ukraine,, Macedonia, Austria, France, Brunei)
That is horrible. The time is so tight that a single typo and you are snookered. The number of times I looked at it and i had a list of 5 or 6 countries all typed as one word with a single typo in the first one, was unreal. Frustrating would be a massive understatement.
One way to work is:
Usa Guatemala Costa-rica Haiti Brazil Chile Ecuador Uk Portugal Belgium Austria Russia Serbia Moldova Greece south-korea Laos india Indonesia brunei Uzbekistan iran isreal Saudi-arabia congo equatorial guinea Mozambique Lesotho Botswana Ethiopia niger Tunisia Mauritania guinea Ghana gambia Denmark Sweden Vatican san-marino Monaco andorra
With this tactic I finished with 34 seconds left
Brazil, Peru, USA, Belize, Honduras, Haiti, Costa Rica, Spain, UK, Germany, Monaco, Austria, Italy, Serbia, Greece, Sweden, Ukraine, Latvia, Mali, Senegal, Togo, Cameroon, Liberia, DRC, Malawi, Ethiopia, Libya, South Africa, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, China, South Korea, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia
FINALLY
After a while of trying, I finally was able to get to a point where I had 30 seconds left to see what 2 countries I was missing.. Liechtenstein and Brunei, screw off! lol.
And I finally have the Border Badge!
usa
haiti
guatemala
costa rica
brazil
ecuador
chile
sweden
germany
monaco
lichtenstein
spain
uk
italy
russia
hungary
moldova
montenegro
greece
turkey
israel
saudi arabia
afghanistan
china
laos
india
south korea
brunei
indonesia

gambia
libya
guinea

nigeria
congo
gabon
djibouti
tanzania
south africa
You gotta know which countries take out the most other countries. It should be easy with Russia, China, Congo....but there are others. Guess them first, then you have less to type in.
game plan: usa guatemala costa rica brazil peru haiti france germany italy spain austria uk north korea malaysia indonesia thailand china india russia turkmenistan senegal albania croatia moldova sweden cameroon burkina faso mali algeria guinea congo israel saudi arabia mozambique south africa
i think that's it
Lots of fun! For beginners on this quiz: An example of strategy is that only three countries work for Liechtenstein--Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland. Of those three, Austria is by far the shortest and therefore fastest to type. Also, Tajikistan helps because of all the countries it borders. And Italy and Laos not just for the ones they border, but they are nice and short.
This is a bit odd. I just took the quiz untimed and got 100%. You are not supposed to get points for taking a quiz untimed but I got 5 points and my stats say best score 157/157. I also got the border badge.
100% with 28 seconds to spare. 38 countries used. Suggest improvements.

What is the best score?
Replace Kenya and Eritrea by Ethiopia; since you take Congo as well, you catch Tanzania with the latter. Would be funny to find out the master list: What's the minimum of countries (and which) and what's the minimum of characters needed to solve the quiz successfully.
It is actually considered a land border to India! This is because at times during low tide, you can walk straight from India to Sri Lanka, which means it's not an island at all times, so it is technically a land border to Indi! I know, cool, right?!
Not to different from my version, what time do you score?
Mine was:
Costa Rica, Guatemala, USA, Brazil, Peru, Sweden, Syria, Senegal, Gabon, Niger Congo, Algeria, Sudan, Somalia, Malawi, South Africa, Ghana, Liberia, South Korea, China, Russia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, UK, Romania, Serbia, Greece, Haiti. And last one left that doesn't get tagged before, Uzbekistan.
Now here is my solution: USA Mexico Panama Haiti Peru Honduras Brazil Serbia Albania Norway Germany UAE Austria Slovakia Italy Turkey Poland Romania Russia Saudi Arabia Iran Syria Egypt UK France Spain Uzbekistan Laos Cameroon South Africa North Korea Brunei Ethiopia Ivory Coast Indonesia DRC India Malawi Mali Guinea Niger Libya Togo Gambia. I made it with 15 seconds left.
