Geography Now! Blog

+1
Geography Now! is a YouTube channel created by Paul Barbato (aka Barby) back in 2014. Paul makes videos about each of the sovereign states of the world, as well as Filler Week episodes between countries.

Video Analysis

Each video is made up of four parts: Political Geography, Physical Geography, Demographics and Friend Zone. They are pretty self explanatory but I'll give a small summary of each one.

Political Geography: Borders, Subdivisions, and Cities

Physical Geography: Landscape, Natural Resources, Wildlife, Ecosystems

Demographics: Ethnicity and Language

Friend Zone: International Relations

Currently, Paul and his team have created videos on every country alphabetically from Afghanistan to Saudi Arabia. Also, he has not made a video on Kosovo due to not wanting to offend anybody.

Paul has also made Flag/Fan Friday videos ever since the Cuba episode. In each Flag/Fan Friday episode, he briefly talks about the mistakes he might have made in the previous country episode. After that, he talks about the flag itself, and its symbolism. He also talks about the coat of arms/national emblem of a country and its symbolism. After that, he reads fan mail from geograpeeps (term used for fans of Geography Now!)

There are a few running gags in the videos too, such as Bob Saget, Little Liechtenstein and everyone's favourite: THE BLOOD OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR THEIR FREEDOM.

I really enjoyed GN's earlier videos, but the cheesiness got to be a bit too much for me around New Zealand. I haven't been watching the recent videos but I might give them another try.
