Number of Characters in Super Smash Bros. Games

This graph represents the evolution of the number of playable characters in the Super Smash Bros. game series.

The Pokémon trainer's different Pokémon are considered different as entities, unlike Pyra/Mythra, which only add one to the counter.

Lol, nice chart. I'm not a really huge fan of Smash, but I used to play Ultimate with my friends sometimes back in high school.

I'm not a huge fan too, but I try to follow the evolutions of the game, and I like to sometimes play it with my friends or brothers, although I'm a very bad player.

I think this graph can illustrate the "limits" of this concept, because we can add more and more characters indefinitely. Let's see if it will (sadly) stop at 100 or 500 characters...

It would be interesting to see not the cumulative number of playable characters, but how many characters each new game has featured. Because I believe not every playable character makes a return to the later games, is this correct?

Also, is this chart supposed to not be in English?

Sorry for the language selected, I corrected it.

Yes, you're right, there are some cases of characters not making a return to the later game, but they are pretty rare (I can count 9 cases in the whole history of the series). But yes, it could be interesting too. Here, I wanted to show the impressive evolution of the playable characters to represent the potential limits of this nice concept, but it could be nice too.

I haven't played the more recent games, but so it sounds like they have lots and lots of playable characters then?

Yes, a lot. For some players, too much. And almost everyone agree to say that a series based on this type of concept can't continue to exist as it indefinitely, adding more characters each time a new game is released (and now also with DLCs...).
