A chart showcasing the percentage of votes received by major parties in every general election.
Socialist parties refer to Socialist Party (1951-52), Praja Socialist Party (1952-72), Samyukta Socialist Party (1964-72) and Samajwadi Party (since 1992). And Bharatiya Janata Sangh, the predecessor to Bharatiya Janata Party, has been shown under the label of the latter.
Only big parties and/or those having national level presence shown. Smaller state-level and/or regional parties included in "Other parties".

ARE YOU KIDDING ME I WAS EDITING THIS CHART LAST NIGHTNice chart! Also, coudn't you put TDP, they were main opposition one year.
I will release my chart too, won't look as good as this and it's by seats...I wanted to but it limited me to add only 10 parties. It's also not a national party.
I LITERALLY FINISHED ALL THE PARTIES I JUST HAD TO CALCULATE 5 MORE OTHER SLOTS BUT I WENT TO SLEEPI combined all the communist parties together therefore giving me an extra. They do operate in 2 states.
Other exceptions made because I am from the North 😉
