The Headline Editorial: We All Know Why Republicans Hate the JLVRA

Thanks A Lot Trump. Now We Have the Big Lie.

The Big Lie (the fantasy that there was massive voter fraud in the 2020 election to the extend that Donald Trump is the rightful winner) is one of the main reasons the Republicans are opposed to new voting rights bills. While some republicans have denounced the Big Lie, others have taken it and used it as a reason to put in place restrictive voting laws.

Voter ID

Many republican states have "Voter ID Laws" in place which requires someone to show some form of identification to vote. Republican claim that this will prevent voter fraud. But most people know the real reasons. It's to benefit them politically. People who are unable to afford or access ID's or Drivers licenses are more likely to be democrats. They are essentially taking away their right to vote. Democrats are more likely to not have a form of ID. If Republicans take away their right to vote, they have a better chance of winning.

Gerrymandering

For this example, I'm going to use North Carolina as my example. In North Carolina, the political maps are drawn by the State house. Republicans hired an expert to draw the state congressional map and the national one. And this is what he did:

He grouped democrats together so democrats would always win.

He divided democratic strongholds and grouped them with more populous Republican ones.

He grouped several African-American communities into one district.

In other words, he altered the states congressional maps to benefit republicans. And it worked.

The State map in 2014. There are several very oddly shaped districts which group democrats together.

To Sum Up...

To sum up, Republicans pass laws that benefit them, and make them more likely to win.

Yep.

You herd me right.

Solid blog.

I think it is rather one-sided though. While the Republican Party is more notorious for gerrymandering, it is worth saying that it is something that both parties have done.

And of course, Republicans pass laws that benefit them. Once again, both parties do. It's only natural for a political party to want to remain in office.

You could even argue that the JLVRA is an instance of the Democratic Party passing laws to benefit them, and to make them more likely to win.

It says "herd" although I don't know if that is dialect or a typo
