Hi guys I'm a kinda new JetPunk user but ever since I've been using it I can't use any other quizzing site however, Sporcle thinks their better. Is JetPunk that much better than Sporcle??
JetPunk's better but I just want to hear your thoughts on why Sporcle isnt as good as JetPunk
I'm not saying Sporcle's bad, but it's not very good in comparison to JetPunk. If you try comparing Sporcle to other quiz websites (like playbuzz), it may be better.
The quizzes on Sporcle don't have much of a variety and many are a bit boring (eg: Countries Whose Sixth Letter isn't 'i', Lightswitch settings). But Sporcle seems to really dislike JetPunk. If you write a comment containing the word "JetPunk," your account instantly gets blocked (I think you have to write 2 comments with the word to get your account blocked). I also don't like how Sporcle publicly releases your location on your user profile (like the exact city)
In my opinion, JetPunk is overall much better. However, Sporcle is good compared to other quiz websites.
Ironically, I never knew that a site called sporcle existed, until some users mentioned it the jetpunk comment section. While both sides are great and I use both, sporcle definitely takes the cake. As Quizmaster mentioned jetpunk is way smaller than sporcle, and jetpunk does not have any employees,so it would naturally lag behind sporcle. I think sporcle is better because they are more community-inclined (they have users who have been chosen as "curators" for various categories iirc), they have a quite diverse variety of quizzes(especially on cricket, India etc). And of course sporcle has evolved a lot over the years, having added new fun features like multiplayer showdowns, parties etc.
Coming to jetpunk , it has a slightly better user interface, less advertisements (most people use adblockers so this does not concern them). The Jetpunk quiz editor has way less variety but it is way more functional and easy-to-use than sporcle.
I have learnt so much from Jetpunk. As a 50+ year old user I find Jetpunk to be very easy to use. Ive even learnt some very basic HTML code
The stories about being banned from Sp***le make me want to go over there again, change my details and then comment about Jetpunk just to be banned...Thats about as badass I get these days.
Edited to add.....Jetpunk also have many abbreviations and spelling allowances for countries in the popular "Countries of the World" quiz, wheras that other site makes you type out Bosnia and Herzagovina in full and also spell Kyrgyzstan exactly ...not very user friendly that
Cons of Sporcle: Convoluted site littered with ads and other things I don't care about; worse quiz editor; data collection.
Pros of JetPunk: Better quiz editor; cleaner site; more involved community; better Countries of the World Quiz; better for learning things.
Cons of JetPunk: Smaller site so updates take longer; not much variance from geography and other basic topics.
First, the blockage of 'JetPunk'. I don't have a definite explanation, but perhaps the 'punk' part is being blocked as an offensive term.
Second, the ads. Yep. The ads are awful. I won't dispute that. They're a lot lighter here.
Third, the quizzes. The formats are different, and each has its own set of advantages. Sporcle has eight different formats:
Classic, Clickable, Grid, Map, Multiple Choice, Picture Box, Picture Click, Slideshow), and JetPunk has five (Text, Picture, Click Map, Multiple Choice, Tile). The two Sporcle formats that stand out from JetPunk's offering are Slideshow and Grid. (1/5)
Fourth, the quiz quality. Sporcle has thousands of awful quizzes. This is inevitable, seeing as the quiz creation feature has been fully available to all users for about a decade. Here, there is an approval process, and a strict three quiz per day limit, cutting down on submissions, and ensuring that these submissions display some degree of quality and originality (This is the purpose of the required approval, yes?). But given that there are quizzes contributed every couple minutes on Sporcle, it really isn't reasonable to expect/pay anyone to review these. We do have a report button, should any user come across an inappropriate, broken, or blatantly copied quiz, and moderators/admins privatize these within a day or two. (2/5)
The JetPunk Discord is very active, and has a large community of quiz makers and quiz-takers but is mostly (entirely?) a young, male, demographic.
On the site itself, we've generally resisted calls to create more social media features, since I'm not sure how they can be accomplished without the possibility for harassment or other negative things. That said, we have a good community of users who come back to the site on a daily basis. Our user retention is extremely strong.
