6 Unknown UNESCO Sites

1: Tsingy de Bemaraha Nature Reserve

It is this reserve that is depicted on the thumbnail. It looks amazing, doesn't it?

Looks like a scenery for fantasy
Among the stone forests there is a tropical

These strange stone outgrowths form entire forests! The reserve was opened for tourists late, in 1998, and therefore became deprived of attention. The reserve is located in Madagascar, so of course there are lemurs in it! For example, such a funny big Indri:

These eyes look into the soul
Therefore, there is something to see in Tsingy de Bemaraha.

2. Rani ki vav

India is a wonderful country with wonderful, kind people and diverse culture and nature, so some masterpieces are not so well known to tourists. Rani ki vav was built in the XI century in Gujarat. This is a steppwell. It collected groundwater and precipitation during the rainy season. Thanks to the steps of different levels, residents could get water at any time. The well was a pleasant place to relax, so the Indians who came for water spent time in the well. Over time, such wells have become a place of holidays, recreation and events.

In such a beautiful place and I would rest

Unfortunately, the Saraswati River has become fuller. The well was not designed for such a volume of water, and the river flooded this wonderful building. Rani ki vav remained under water until the 80s. But now we have the opportunity to visit this wonderful place

3. Brasilia

Not to say that it is forgotten, but criminally (sorry for the joke) deprived of attention compared to other cities. A very controversial Heritage site, but despite this, I was very surprised by it. The city is in the shadow of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, it is remote from other major cities, there is a big gap between the poor and the rich, but still, it is a very interesting experiment of its time. But its buildings are impressive even for today:

Church, most famous building in Brasilia
Palácio da Alvorada

Separately, I want to say about the Presidential Residence: Brazilians, your head has one of the most beautiful residencies! Brasilia surprised people so much that the UNESCO committee added it to the list 27 years after the founding of the capital instead of the required 50. Therefore, despite all the shortcomings, Brasilia is a very unusual city, a city that finally launched a new architecture, a new Brazil.

4. Cocos Island

Costa Rica has finally begun to pay decent attention, which pleases me. Cocos Island is the southernmost of North America. The island is very beautiful.

Aquamarine water

This island was honored to have a lithospheric plate in honor of itself. But this is not what is most interesting. According to legends, countless treasures are buried on the island of Coconut, which is what this island is known for. But Coconut Island itself is a real treasure with an incredible variety of living organisms

5. Pitons Management Area

This wonderful Heritage site is located in a country that many non-jetpunkers have not heard of. It's hard to guess, this is Saint Lucia. Pitons is the one of the symbols of this small country. It consists of two cones: Gros-Pitons and Petit-Pitons, which are visible from all points of the island.

Two pitons brothers have already died out, so there are coral reefs with different fish next to them.

6. Virgin Forests of Komi

If you look closely, all the objects in today's list are in the tropics, so the last site will be cold. The virgin forests of Komi are located in my native country — Russia, which, unfortunately, is deprived of attention. Although there are so many beautiful places in it! For example, this forest.
It's a cosmic

This is the largest pristine forest in Europe. It is bigger than a country like Belgium. But he is in danger. The fact is that there is a huge reserve of gold reserves in the virgin forest, and although UNESCO and the government of Russia prohibit mining, gold is still illegally mined, and the government of the Komi Republic tried to move the boundaries of the reserve. But despite this, the forest is almost not in danger.

Result

In this blog, 6 little-known and not too popular places from the UNESCO list were presented, but from this they are not uninteresting or bad, on the contrary, when such places are not packed with millions of tourists, it even pleases a little. All these places are worthy of attention from the cold and inaccessible Komi forest to the hot, heavenly Cocos, from the ancient and decorated Rani ki vava to the new and modernist Brasilia.

I hope you enjoyed the blog and learned something new for yourself!

as a brazilian that “criminally” truly offended me

I was trying to do a Brazilian UNESCO World Heritages Blog. I quite like of Brasília except for the politics, and I found nice that you said about the inequality yeah, i will let only that pass. Brasília is the most unequal city in Brazil, as most of the city is centered in the Plano Piloto or the Asa Sul, with huge gaps on the other administrative regions. But, maybe you could correct where you said “Brazil is a very unusual city”

That’s good for a starting blog and could be a great series! But never think of saying bad stuff about Brazil please. Let that with us Brazilians :)

Edit: nvm i think you wasnt saying about brazil that part ;-;

I'm sorry if I offended you. In fact, in Russian, "criminally deprived of attention" has no negative connotation. But I didn't take into account that there is probably no such phrase in English. Therefore, it turned out to be an offensive pun (and later stupidly emphasized by me) in the direction of the Brazilians. Respect for your country!

Aaaaaa, the damn translator carefully replaced "Brasilia" for me, not "Brazil". I tried to replace, but inattentively. I must to double-check the text that the translator gave

It is a phrase in English as well, MG must be joking. Usually in English, words like "truly" in a casual context means it's a joke.

Don’t worry bro! Every Brazilian gets proud when we see our country appearing somewhere. It’s like your brother: only you can complain about him. But double-checking that, I saw it wasn’t your intention :) And, as Thread said, it’s common to say “truly” as an ironic way. I was just joking around :) But your English is really good!

I truly don’t know what you’re saying. Is this comment a joke to you? Because I’m truly trying to sound 100% serious. I am very serious, yes, yes I am. Truly seriously serious.

An excellent first blog Kingsfisher! I'm sure this is going to be a great series! All the pictures are really nice. Loved those forest ones! :)

I've been to Rani ki Vav, in 2016 or 2017 I think. That would literally mean the "Queen's Stepwell". Stepwells are pretty common in western India. They served dual purposes as water storage and royal bathing. Sometimes I wonder how come the common people would drink the water in which the queen would bathe. These days, most of the vavs are useless, ruined and have little to no water. You can't go all the way deep into it as well because of the weak and old structure. And also there are a lot of pigeons inside these structures which make them really stink because of their.. um, leave it. 😅

Unfortunately, I saw Rani ki vav only in the photo, so I didn't know about all his shortcomings. And, of course, it is unsuitable as a well or a place to rest. And the nuances of vavs are also unknown to me. Thanks!

Amazing first blog! I think the Cocos Islands sound nice (there are also Cocos Islands in Australia which I thought you were referring to at first)
