A New Country? *gasp*

A New Country!

If the thumbnail was no hint, hopefully, this blog is. There's a new country! Coming soon in 2027 to a map near you. Also a different blog about the same thing.

Introduction

The new country is located in the Pacific Ocean. It shares almost the same name as the bougainvillea. So now you know what it is? Assuming you don't, let me just tell you. It's Bougainville! The Autonomous Region of Bougainville, according to the 2019 independence referendum, will be independent in 2027. That's when my 19th birthday will be! Anyways, let's learn about our newest *almost* country! (P.S. I will refer to it as a country.)

Also, where I got most of my information from: obviously, Wikipedia.

Geography

Bougainville is situated on Bougainville Island, the largest in the country, along with some smaller islands, the largest of those outliers being Buka, the second largest island. It also includes the Green Islands, the Carteret Islands, Takuu Atoll, Nukumanu Atoll and the Nugurian Islands, a Polynesian exclave. The area of the country is 9,384 sq. kilometers.

Politics

The current capital is Buka. The previous capital was Arawa. Bougainville is currently run by the President of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Bougainville's legislative branch is the Bougainville House of Representatives, with 39 elected members. The Bougainville Courts consist of a Supreme Court and a High Court and probably, 99% most definitely other smaller courts.

Districts and Local Government Areas

There are three districts:

Central, North and South Bougainville Districts.

The capitals of each district are, respectively:

Arawa-Kieta, Buka and Buin.

And the LGAs:

Central: Arawa, Wakunai

North: Atolls, Buka, Kunua, Nissan, Selau-Suir, Tinputz

South: Bana, Buin, Siwai, Torokina

Demographics

A great majority of Bougainvillean residents are Christian, with 70% being Catholic. Bougainville's constitution does not state an official language, but Tok Pisin is a lingua franca for Bougainvillean residents, and the constitution is written in English.

Sorry, no culture.

Fun Little Extras!

Here's the link to a Bougainville country quiz I made: NOT DONE

Along with a quiz on the districts and local government areas of Bougainville, with no map: here.

And the flag of Bougainville, the sign-off image.

Sign-Off

Hooray! You made it to the end! Hope you had fun reading this, but now, it's time to sign off. Because you made it to the end, here's a sign off prize. This time, the sign off prize is the flag of our newest country, Bougainville! Anyways, thanks for reading, and bye!

This is GeoSmartKirbyXD, signing off.

The flag of Bougainville. This is the sign off image, meaning there is nothing else after this.

Although BotswanaEmperor already did a blog like that, these are really good info! For me, “Bougain” will be an inexpressive country like Tuvalu or Vanuatu, suffering of economical and political problems. This thing of culture is not excuse for me. What makes a country amazing, is the cultural differences (that we have in Brazil). That’s why I hate these separatist moments we have mainly in South region.

And a part of the state of Pará, is trying to become a state, which name would be Tapajós. I may do a blog about that soon.

Glad you’re having time to blog here! :)

Same thing with India, it's built on having so many cultures, so there's no point in the separatist movements. And India has so many areas trying to become states, I'm even planning to make a whole video about it...

However, the pacific islands do have significant differences and Bougainville fought a war for independence so they might feel that it's necessary.

And I agree, Indian culture is really different, sometimes look strange to me, but it’s really interesting to learn about it :)

And yes, but who in the life won’t war lol?

Does Japan or the Koreas have cultural differences? No, but they are some of the most widely known countries in the world. While I do agree that cultural differences are an important part of a country, a strong economy and happy citizens are definitely more important.

I mean, they culturally are different from the rest of the world, with all the technology, and, my personally hateful animes and k-pop. I mean, that one of the reasons of Bougainville separe of Solomon Islands is the cultural difference, and I don’t buy this idea. There are these reasons to, but a country is beautiful also because have a culture diversity everywhere, like with Brazil. Logically, culture won’t be enough if the country if the economy breaks and citizens suffer problems like lack of basic sanitation, and violence. But I don’t think economy of “Bougain” will be succeeded. If it does (what for me is improbable), hope it don’t be like Nauruan Phosphate (Nauru nevermore)

At least I've got 6 years til I have to update the Oceania section of my blog.

Let's hope it works out well for the peoples of Bougainville, but I fear from past experiences this may be doubtful.

the previous capital of Arawa was all but destroyed by a civil uprising in 1990, doesn't bode well, but we shall see.
