A Complete (Hopefully) List of JetPunk Country Acronyms

+7

What is a type-in?

A Type-in is something that will work as an alternate answer for a JetPunk question.  Such as Sri Kotte Cheese for Sri IamnotalberteinsteinsoIdon’tknowthis Kotte, the capital of the Indian Ocean island nation, Sri Lanka.  A branch of JetPunk type-ins are acronyms used for countries, like how PSA is an acronym for Pickled Salamander Acrobatics Public Service Announcement.

What is an acronym?

An acronym is an abbreviation of two or more words.  You take the starting letter of each word and use it in the acronym.  FBI is an acronym for Federal Burro (hehehe) of Investigation.  Sometimes with acronyms you can remove the words like “of”, “the” and “a”.  However, in certain cases like ROC, the acronym for Taiwan, O stands for of.  With country acronyms, the letters most of the time stand for the countrys’ official name.

ROC: Taiwan

ROC stands for Republic of China, and it is the acronym for, not China, but Taiwan.  You see, during WWII, Taiwan was part of the Japanese Empire.  Upon the surrender of Hirohito, Taiwan was placed under the rule of the Republic of China.  Then the Chinese Civil War happened.  The Communists took control of mainland China and the Republic of China fled to the island of Taiwan.

PRC: China

PRC stands for People’s Republic (of) China.  This acronym is for the China that we call China, not the China that we call Taiwan.  People’s Republic of China is China’s full name.

PNG: Papua New Guinea

PNG stands for Private Toadstool Gym.  #Don’tBelieveEverythingYouReadOnTheInternet. More seriously, PNG stands for what you would assume it stands for: Papua New Guinea, the name of the country.  Duh.

FSM: Federated States of Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia, sometimes incorrectly abbreviated to just Micronesia, is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean next to the nation of Palau next to the nation of the Philippines.  FSM, as you would expect, stands for Federated States (of) Micronesia.

NZ: New Zealand

One of the shorter acronyms on JetPunk, NZ stands for, you guessed it, New Zealand.  This acronym was QM’s decision, and Stewart was mainly against it.

ROK: South Korea

ROK stands for Republic Of Korea, often known as South Korea, or sometimes just Korea.  Another acronym with O for of.

DPRK: North Korea

Both of the Koreas have acronyms and this one stands for Democratic People’s Republic (of) Korea, sometimes called North Korea.

KSA: Saudi Arabia

KSA is the acronym for the Middle Eastern country of Saudi Arabia, located on the Arabian Peninsula.  KSA stands for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

UAE: United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is another country on the Arabian Peninsula, and it has an acronym as well.  UAE is the acronym for the United Arab Emirates, and it obviously stands for the United Arab Emirates.

CAR: Central African Republic

“I live in CAR”

“You live in a car?”

“No, Central African Republic”

“Ohhhhhh”

You guessed it, CAR stands for Central African Republic, the Republic in the Center of Africa.

DRC: Democratic Republic of Congo

DRC stands for Democratic Republic of Congo, the bigger Congo.  The smaller one doesn’t have an acronym that works as a type-in.  And also, if you use this type-in, you kill two birds with one stone!  Dominican Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo.  Of course, Congo also highlights two countries, but it’s not an acronym.

DR: Dominican Republic

Surprisingly, Dominican Republic is the only Caribbean island nation with a type-in acronym (I think). DR stands for Dominican Republic.

USA: United States

USA stands for United States of America, the full name of the country we know as United States or if you have an uneducated mind, simply America.

Bonus: NYC: New York.  NYC stands for New York City, but as the city and the state have the same name, NYC will work when typing the state as well.

FYROM: North Macedonia

FYROM is the acronym for the European nation of North Macedonia, sometimes incorrectly called Macedonia (this also works as a type-in for those who can’t remember FYROM).  FYROM stands for Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

UK: United Kingdom

Type Ukraine, and you’ll get the UK, do to this acronym.  UK stands for United Kingdom.

GB: United Kingdom

For those uneducated minds, Great Britain and the United Kingdom are the same thing.  But no, Great Britain is the island, and the UK is the country.  However, GB, as a acronym for Great Britain, still works as a type-in for United Kingdom.

Thanks for reading!  If you know anymore, because I’m almost certain I missed some, say so in the comments.  Bye!

You can get all the type-ins by simply copying the COTW quiz and then click on type-in tab.

I wish that countries domain suffixes (also know as ccTLD) could be used in type-ins, although it would be abused a lot. I think people would be able to achieve sub-2 minute speedrun on the “Countries of the World” quiz.

By domain suffixes I mean like .us for the United States, .uk for the United Kingdom, and .de for Germany
