Pro Wrestling: From Good to Worse

+1

Pro Wrestling or Professional Wrestling surged in popularity in the United States throughout the 1980s, from having the best bookers to a bunch of great performing wrestlers, had always experienced a boom in its popularity. The WWF (now WWE), being the most dominating pro wrestling promotion for more than 40 years is now altered into a big joke.

The promotion offered great varieties of matches from a normal steel cage match to an insane exploding barbed wire deathmatch in the 80s and 90s. Since then, WWE had some great storylines which made every single moment entertaining and enjoyable especially during the Monday Night Wars! The war between WWE and WCW. During the period, the chairman of WWE Mr. Vince McMahon drew some great attention from their fans to his business which eventually led to a great rise and popularity in his company proving WWE the true dominating wrestling promotion again after defeating WCW and even buying them at last!

After the tragical death of Chris Benoit, WWE turned PG in 2008 which basically removed the "excess" of the Attitude Era and some compelling storylines, due to which the Pro Wrestling Industry lost its "hardcore" title. Barely any weapons were used in the PG Era (except for Chairs and Tables), no more hardcore death matches happened again, many moves were banned and it was like everything was taken away from the Pro Wrestling.

But if we look at the positive side, the new PG Era became more entertaining by introducing hilarious and awesome storylines! The PG Era had its best year from 2012 to 2016, from having a great Dolph Ziggler and Rusev feud to Roman Reigns interrupting Rusev's wedding! WWE received some positive feedback by the fans during the mid PG Era, which encouraged them to deliver the same product again, but the fall of WWE started to begin afterwards. The continuation of these storylines started to take an ugly turn which made the fans annoyed. The hard working wrestlers were portrayed as clowns which created a distrust between the fans and the WWE. Because of WWE, other wrestling promotions had to suffer the distrust from their fans too, IMPACT Wrestling's viewership dropped significantly but one underrated wrestling promotion which no one talked about is NJPW. New Japan Pro Wrestling, delivers a great product till the present day, the company is based on a Japanese Wrestling Promotion where the insane death matches still take place, which restores some faith in the Pro Wrestling. Back to WWE, the wrestlers became unhappy with the promotion eventually canceling their contract for their better future, due to this WWE suffered a great loss getting no more positive feedbacks from the fans.

In 2019, A Stable named "The Elite" (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, Adam Page) formed their own wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) being run by the president Tony Khan. Their main motive was to bring back Pro Wrestling into action and not to perform the same mistakes just how WWE did. The brought back an insane Barbed Wire match in 2019 featuring Kenny Omega battling Jon Moxley. Since then, AEW received many positive comments from the fans making them the hottest wrestling promotion of the year. After the Tuesday Night Wars between AEW Dynamite and NXT, the huge competition started to develop more hatred among the wrestling community. But ironically, they did the same mistake just how WWE did, the product they promised to deliver was never delivered in the first place. During the pandemic, the quality of their show started to decrease significantly, one of the main reasons were that they introduced so many tag team matches, from kicking off the show with a tag team match to ending the show with a tag team match, the insane amount of tag team matches in a single show was mind blowing, which made it more boring.

Pro Wrestling is not the same now as it was in the earlier days, Professional Wrestling should be brought back with interests, not with capital.
