Inaccuracies with Yakko's World

We're off to a good start. No inaccuracies so far.

Oh dear...first off, it's Dominican Republic, not Republic Dominican. 'Caribbean' is not a country - it's a region. And finally, Greenland is not a country (ugh); it's a part of Denmark.

Puerto Rico is a part of the United States, not a sovereign nation.

Guatemala, Bolivia, then Argentina
And Ecuador, Chile, Brazil

No mistakes here.

First off, Bermuda is not and never has been an independent country. 'Tobago' is not a country either; it's one of the two primary islands of the country Trinidad & Tobago. I don't know why they put Tobago instead of just Trinidad (which would still be wrong, but it'd make more sense) as Trinidad is the main island. San Juan...is not at all a country; it's the capital of Puerto Rico, which isn't even a country itself!

And French Guiana, Barbados, and Guam

French Guiana is not a country, it's a department of France. Guam is a territory of the United States.

Nothing wrong here. I won't say anything about "Germany, now in one piece" since East and West Germany had united about 3 years earlier.

Czechoslovakia separated on January 1st, 1993 and according to genius.com, Yakko's World was released on September 14th, 1993. Although it's technically incorrect, I'll give this a pass since the split-up was recent.

Ugh. Scotland isn't a country, it's a part of the UK and has been since 1707.

I don't see anything incorrect here, but I don't understand why they randomly added Oman, Iraq, and Iran to the mix as this verse is about Europe, but whatever.

Yemen united in 1990, so "Both Yemen's" doesn't apply here. And England is not a country...

Burma changed its name to Myanmar in 1989, but some people recognize the country's name as its former, so I won't judge. Kampuchea does not apply here, though. Kampuchea's name lasted until 1989 when it was renamed back to Cambodia. Asia....oh please, are you kidding me?? You write a song with a nice melody, tune, and even its own music video, but screw up the lyrics so badly that you add Asia!? Even a fifth grader probably knows that Asia isn't a country! Also, Korea split in 1945; you could've at least said "both the Koreas" instead.

Tibet was annexed by China in 1951. "The Philippines" would make more sense, but I won't say much about this. "New Guinea" is also not a country; it's supposed to be "Papua New Guinea". Ugh...neither Sumatra nor Borneo are a country; Sumatra is an island of Indonesia and Borneo is an island that encompasses Indonesia, a part of Malaysia, and Brunei.

Swaziland was the name of the country Eswatini at the time (up until 2018), so there's no problem with that.

Why did the songwriter choose to add "The Spanish Sahara is gone"? With that logic, they should've included the names of all former countries. If you're really going to add that, why not add "The Roman Empire is gone"? I think "The Soviet Union is gone" would actually make more sense since it had split apart recently.

Algiers is not a country, it's the capital of Algeria. Uhhh...Dahomey? Dahomey was renamed to Benin in 1975. I won't say anything about Zaire because it was a country up until 1997.

I feel like the songwriter was in a rush to finish the song so they added a jumble of completely random cities and countries from random parts of the world. Mahore? Are you kidding me? Mahore is an island of Mayotte - which isn't even a country itself (it's an overseas department of France). And Cayman? Cayman is an island of a British overseas territory! Hong Kong was also a British colony up until 1997; ironically it would make more sense to put it in the song today than in 1993. Abu Dhabi is an emirate of the UAE, not a country! Yugoslavia split apart in 1992, but since it was recent, I'll give that a pass.

Crete, an island of Greece, has never been a country (well, maybe during Roman times but that was thousands of years ago). Transylvania is a region of Romania. Palestine is controversial so this gets a pass.

It's a shame how a song with such a nice melody and tune can get its lyrics screwed up so badly. Anyways, thanks for reading.
