Å

Å, Norway

Yes! There is somewhere named Å! And not just one, there are many places called Å! One in Denmark, seven in Norway and five in Sweden. They are just villages, not big cities or subdivison.

Geneva-on-the-Lake

Welcome to Geneva-on-the-Lake!

It is a village in Ohio with just 1,300 people.

Hell

Don’t go there.

- Where are you from?

- I’m from Hell.

- *dies*

Yeah, Hell! It is a village in Norway (and also in Michigan). And it hosts “Blues in Hell” festival every year.

Não-Me-Toque

Entrance to Não-Me-Toque

Probably you didn’t understand anything, if you don’t know Portuguese! Because it means don’t touch me (or something like that). Yeah! A municipality in south of Brazil.

No Name

 A sign

No words...

Swastika

Entrance to Swastika

No, it doesn’t have any relevance with Nazis. Actually it named before World War II. Even before World War I! At 1908. Very small town in Ontario, Canada.

Long Names

It means the summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the slider, climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his kōauau (flute) to his loved one in Māori. And it has longer version! Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaurehaeaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu with 92 letters.

Official name of Bangkok. Pronounced like this. It means city of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indra's behest.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch means Saint Mary's church of the pool of the white hazels over against the pool of St Tysilio Gogo [Tysilio of the cave]. A large village in Wales. Often shortened to Llanfair PG.

Não-Me-Toque is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The lands of today's municipality of Não-Me-Toque, as in other municipalities in the region, had the presence of Indians as the first native inhabitants.

The lands of today's municipality of Não-Me-Toque, as in other municipalities in the region, had the presence of Indians as the first native inhabitants. In the middle of the twentieth century, the descendants of Italians and Germans sought better living conditions in the Colônia Nova do "Alto Jacuhy" (today Alto Jacuí) and, in the acquired plots of land, began to dedicate themselves to agriculture and timber/logging extraction, as well as the installation of small factories and commercial houses.

Religion and education have always been the driving forces behind the small town that passed to the village, forming part of the lands of Rio Pardo, Cruz Alta, to later become the district of Passo Fundo and Carazinho. From 1949 Dutch immigrants began to arrive and the municipality became the birthplace of Dutch immigration in Rio Grande do Sul. On December 18, 1954 the municipality of Não-Me-Toque was created, being installed on February 28 of 1955. Its population is mainly composed of descendants of Germans, Italians, Dutch and a portion of Portuguese.

Among the various versions that explain the origin of Não-Me-Toque are:

A tree with a short trunk and cut with thorns, popularly known as non-me-toques, with the scientific name Dasyphyllum spinescens (Less.) Cabrera, very abundant in the region at the time of the Italian-German colonization.

The expression "don't touch me in these lands", or "don't touch me from here" said by a Portuguese farmer, referring to his big farm, which he never intended to get rid of.

Between the variety of crops and the production of good seeds, wheat was considered for many years as the "king cereal" of plantations, inspiring the citizens to choose the change of the name of Não-Me-Toque to Campo Real (Royal Field) (1971).

After intense campaigns, the population, through a referendum, opted for the old name of Não-Me-Toque (1976).

In the Bible, "don't touch me" is a phrase said by Jesus in the episode known as Noli me tangere, very famous in Christianity.

Swastika does not always means Nazi, it is a religious symbol used in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. It is considered very sacred and is used in almost every religious activities.

Minas is a landlocked State. Also, Sem-Peixe’s name is because of nomadic natives arrived in the region and went fishing, not finding enough fish, they moved using the expression “piracuera”, which means “there are no fish here”
