The Apollo 11 astronauts used hundreds of autographs as life insurance. Since they faced the serious prospect of not making it back to Earth alive, they left their families with hundreds of their own autographs to sell in the event that they didn't return. Of course, they did return. One of the autographs was recently sold for $30,000.
