I hate to be "that guy", but it's actually "Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons", so technically it doesn't begin with "the".

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons was what they were called after the founder of the Four Seasons was kicked out. Source - Jersey Boys

All during the 1960s when I listened to them they were just "The Four Seasons." Later they sometimes were called Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but Frankie's first solo recording in 1953 was released under the name Frankie Valley, and he also released a song under the spelling Frankie Valle. The band's first name was The Four Lovers. I've still got their vinyl LPs and play them when I want to feel young again.

Not obscure at all, it's probably their most famous song, if you go by YouTube plays There is a Light That Never goes out has 16.72 million views, the next highest song (How Soon is Now) only has 8.96 million.

It is THE Rolling Stones. As for the Sex Pistols, it says right on their one and only album: Never Mind The Bullocks, Here's THE Sex Pistols.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. It is 'Sex Pistols', not 'The Sex Pistols'. The 'the' you refer to is not part of the band's name, but rather an article included as part of a sentence. Look at any other album ever released by the band. http://www.discogs.com/artist/31753-Sex-Pistols

pinverarity is correct. "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" is in its entirety simply the album name. If you actually looked at the album cover you might have noticed that "the" was in a completely different font and separate from the band name. The original singles I have (Anarchy in the UK, God Save the Queen and Holidays in the Sun) simply say "Sex Pistols". Similarly all Ramones albums I have also simply stylize it as "Ramones".

Every Ramones album simply says "Ramones" on the cover. Not a single one has "The." That is definitive. When I refer to the family that lives next door as "the Joneses," that doesn't mean that their last name is "The Joneses."
