As a person who live in Izmir, Turkey(Original Smyrna) I'm really surprised that there is one more town named after my hometown in USA. There is also New Smyrna Beach in Florida, I learnt that while I was looking Bob Ross' life. He died in there.
I knew they were small, but I figured Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg would make the bottom of the list. Legit surprised to see there are only about 5k residents there!
There are two different reasons for this. First, there had been several French fur trading outposts established in the area. Also, as a result of the American Revolution and the War of 1812, there was a deep dislike for the British among many of the American settlers moving into the area at the time. This made the French suffix -ville very popular as compared to British suffixes such as -borough, -bury, or -ton.
There are many suburbs on here, like there are with many other states with quizzes like this one. There is Bartlett, Collierville, and Germantown for Memphis and Hendersonville, Gallatin, Smyrna, Franklin, Brentwood, Spring Hill, and Murfreesboro for Nashville. Knowing the major cities for these states is pretty easy but learning all the smaller satellite towns surrounding them is much more difficult.
Thanks for this.
