If you do that, then you need to accept Indian Ocean for Oman-India, Yemen-Somalia, and Saudi Arabia-Iran, at a minimum.

The English Channel isn't actually a channel, so La Manche is at least as correct. Then again, it's been named both ways for centuries and the quiz already gives you the "Channel" part.

In German we call it "Ă„rmelkanal", which is a translation of La Manche, as well, but the English notoriously have issues with recognising that anything isn't just theirs, and Muricans often just follow!

The South China Sea does not separate China and the Philippines. Look at a map and you will see that it lies between Vietnam and the Philippines, and is bordered by Malaysia in the south. In Vietnam this sea is call the East Sea(Bien Dong), as it lies off the eastern coast of Vietnam. Calling it the South China Sea implies that Vietnam is somehow a part of southern China. This is offensive to the Vietnamese and is a classic case of imperialism and power determining the naming of places.

"Calling it the South China Sea implies that Vietnam is somehow part of southern China ". It does nothing of the sort. It's just the name of the sea in English - it's describing the sea's position relative to China.

Yes, thank you so much. What an absolutely vital and necessary point. Both of you. You've both clearly demonstrated your moral superiority; complaining about "constant" pontificating on quizzes by pontificating on quizzes, and enthusiastically endorsing a personal attack in the comments directed at someone you feel lashes out too much? We're collectively in awe of how classy y'all are.

btw where on this quiz did anyone criticize me? I don't even see the criticism, much less my overreaction to said criticism. I made a joke above that some people didn't get. I suppose you didn't get it, either.
