The Germans' favorite joke, "conspiracy theory" that the city of Bielefeld does not exist. Have you seen at least one person from there?

The joke hasn't been funny since around 2002 though...

That's what Bielefelder said? (noneg)

It seems to me that this is a common and funny thing: Italians have Molise, and we Russians can call Penza like this. I wonder if Americans have such a terra incognita? Someone answer if you know.

Not sure about the Americans, but in Canada we usually pretend that the entire province of Manitoba is a myth!

But we know the truth... oh, we know the truth...

Wow, it's great — so many responses from different countries! I am glad to see that each of us has such a unifying and at the same time unique feature! It's one of the best things in the world to reveal to people of another culture a piece of your own, even such a small one. I wonder if other countries will respond? It would be interesting to see you too!

Brazil's equivalent to this is Acre, a state in the western tip of a country whose population has always been massively concentrated in the east. It's also entirely situated in the dense Amazon rainforest and as such has very little infrastructural access to the rest of the country, adding to it's isolation.

The state has been made fun of so much in Brazil that it's practically a dead meme at this point, but most of the jokes, aside from the usual "it doesn't exist!" conspiracies, involve saying that it's the only place in the world where dinosaurs still exist, and that it's inhabitated by aliens.

Brazil is just something else, I tell ya!

It happens in Spain too. Many people joke about how Teruel, a very scarcely populated province in Aragon, just doesn't exist. This joke reached its peak when even a political party named "Teruel existe" ("Teruel does exist") was formed to raise awareness of the province's problems in both the Regional and National Parlaments.

While stating that the German city of Bielfeld doesn’t exist as joke isn’t funny. I didn’t know that this was supposed to be a joke. When a planned post is meant to be a joke, please include a statement with the post expressly stating that the post is a joke. If a post that’s meant to be a joke doesn’t say that it’s a joke, is misleading, misinformation, and/or a lie. I only found out that the statement about Bielefeld, Germany, was a joke after reading the comments for this quiz. In addition, I googled the city name to see whether or not the statement was true. I recommend that when posting a quiz, to not use jokes unless the entire quiz is expressly humorous. That said, I did enjoy taking this quiz, and recognize that the confusion was unintentional. An understanding that I live by is: Words and actions, have an impact regardless of intent.

Doesn't that ruin the point of a joke, though? Jokes shouldn't have to always be denoted explicitly. I don't think it causes much harm in this example even if the clue is mistakenly believed as true. Just my two cents, though.
