True. It is super dense in the valleys, but when you go to the desert, it's a much different story. It's basically half of Oregon, so quite a surprise it's not on here
I've been taking too many quizzes. I thought I had already typed in Montana and didn't realize that I hadn't until the time ran out.... *rolls eyes at self*
Maine isn't that big. There are probably places in most states that have an equally low population density, but people don't go there because there isn't much reason to do so.
The northern numbered townships take up an expanse of over 10,000 square miles and a population of 200 to 300 people. From the northern tip to the midpoint of the state you can drive through timberland on washboarded dirt tote roads for 170 miles and go through the micro summer settlement of Clayton Lake which consists of a few seaplanes, a few cabins and a very, very bare bones store. Then you've arrived at Kokadjo with about 10 more people than Clayton Lake, another 30 minutes you finally hit the whopping metropolis of Greenville with a few hundred people. Another hour and a half and you hit a town with a few thousand people, a MacDonald's and a handful of chain stores and fast food which is a first all day. That takes 8 hours if you hot road it on those roads. There's definitely nowhere nearly as empty as that east of the Rockies.
The vast bulk of the people live in the southern and western part of the state. The other 150,000 people live in narrow population corridors in the remaining 20,000 square miles, hemmed in by land the timber companies have always owned and hence have never been developed like the rest of the Eastern U.S. or as in directly across the border in Québec.
Surprised not to see Oklahoma there. I know we always make assumptions but from what I've heard there's about nothing outside of Oklahoma city. Guess not
The Dakotas completely slipped my mind. Feels nice to know I live in a state that has less than six people per square mile, so we won't be facing imminent pollution or the need for EVs.
I have also heard people jokingly say that “There are more moose than people.”
Anyway, I thought it would definitely be there.
me guessing New Mexico on literally every single US state related quiz except this one.
