I'd have agreed, but most of the answers seemed to be accepted too early for me so I had a lot of letters to delete. An -uette quiz, maybe, just seemed a bit keen.
Yea. I actually think 90% of the answers on this quiz were accepted before spelling it complete and correctly (not talking about the -ette) so it is funny you say that on quizzes like this the spelling is important. Cause I kept thinking during this quiz, man they are extreeeemely lenient on this quiz (more like... really... it is accepted allready?? it is not like they are extremely hard or ambiguous)
I didnt count them so it might not be 90% be it felt like all of them were accepted spelled incomplete. brunette palette and gazette perhaps being the exceptions.
I would actually asked to reverse all the accepted incomplete spelling, besides perhaps the serviette, the most uncommon one imo. But that might just be me, because I know the word without an i. People might vote vinaigrette as the most difficult one, but it is not uncommon at all (compared to others on here)
it helps chopping words into syllables if you have trouble spellling them, often they suddenly look a lot simpler and make more sense. And think of ways to remember, for instance vinaigrette starts with vin, the french word for wine.
Tried epilette, epillette, eppillette, epelette, epellette, eppellette. Given a few years to guess the spelling, I still wouldn't have come up with epaulette.
Is the word 'rosette' used differently in America? For that is not a standard definition in UK English, and a rosette would only really be used to describe a rose-shaped ribbon award; given in sports competitions etc.
curious what it was before. Perhaps a decoration shaped like a rose? That is how I know it. In architecture, on cakes and on dresses (mainly weddingdresses)
Could you consider accepting 'aiguillette' for 'shoulder decoration for soldiers'? It may be a bit more obscure than 'epaulette', but it is also decorative and worn on the shoulder of dress uniforms.
