Southern Africa includes Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This is the definition of Southern Africa as defined by the African Union
You've given a lot of townships that are already part of bigger cities. Like Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain are part of Cape Town and Mamelodi is part of Pretoria. Also I know Bloemfontein should be on the list.
I'm wondering also what your definition of Southern Africa is, like if the DRC (Congo) is part then Kinshasa has to be in the list. Also I think Maputo, Harare and Buluwayo might have a lot of people and should be on the list, I mean I have been in Windhoek, Harare and Maputo and Windhoek is really tiny.
I agree. You need to first decide on what your definition of a "city" is. Do you use municipal boundaries (in which case Ekurhuleni will definitely be there) or do you rely on more informal definitions (eg Germiston is a city within Ekurhuleni). You also need to decide whether townships are separate towns or part of their cities. SOWETO is part of Johannesburg, but on its own it would be a city with over a million residents.
A lot of neighbouring countries have cities bigger than Windhoek.
Also decide what constitutes "Southern Africa", some people say it includes everything in SADC, some people say everything south of the Zambezi / Cunene line which excludes parts of Mozambique, yet others say SACU plus Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Its a good idea for a quiz, but needs a lot of work and some directions at the beginning of the quiz setting out your definitions.
