Napoleonic Unit Structure

Smallest grouping of the Napoleonic Wars. Normally lead by a Sergeant. Consists of 40-60 men.

Principle structure for medium sized units. Normally lead by a Captain, or a junior Lt. Consists of 100-150 men.

This formation is very rarely acknowledged. It consists of 2 units combined into a small group. This grouping is normally used in a "Column of _____." Normally consists of 200 or 250 men.

This formation was widely used as a structure for units on the battlefield. Normally lead by a Chef de ____, or a Major in case of the depot unit. It consists of around 600 men on campaign, 800 on garrison or irregular duties.

This formation was widely used as a base system for larger units. Normally lead by a Colonel or a Lt. Colonel, it had around 1,200 to 2,400 units depending on campaign or garrison duties.

This formation was the first unit in unit structure to be lead by a general. Normally consisting of either 3500-6000 units. This unit rarely would be a mix of infantry and cavalry, however it mostly would only be one of the two.

This formation was the base structure for all large armies. Able to march and fight on its own, it was specifically built for the fast paced mobile wars of 1805 and 1806. Its size was a downside however, when it was caught unsupported. Normally consisted of either 10,000-15,000 in certain cases.

This formation is the most famous and notable example of Napoleonic army structure during the Napoleonic Wars. Consisting of artillery, cavalry, and infantry, this unit was a one-of-a-kind fighting force. Its size made it able to fight on its own in almost any situation, as well as being able to march and regroup at a moments notice. Its organization would become Napoleons and Marshal Berthier's greatest achievements. Normally consisted of either 20,000-50,000 troops in certain cases.

This formation was the largest structure of the Napoleonic Wars. Its size varied based on the nation or front it was fighting on.
