The Palme d'Or is the most prestigious award given at the Cannes Film Festival. From 1939 to 1954, the highest award at the festival was known as the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film. The Palme d'Or wasn't introduced until 1955. It was replaced by the Grand Prix in 1964, and reintroduced in 1975.
