I think that it is understood in most of these quizzes that the common name is what is desired, not the official name. The official name for Libya, for instance, is Al Jumahiriyah al Arabiyah al Libiyah ash Shabiyah al Ishtirakiyah al Uzma...But JetPunk is unlikely to ever require us to type that out. Thankfully!
+2

+5
Level 37
Jan 18, 2021
As a matter of fact, a lot of countries just consider it one continent even today (like most of South American countries) because continents are just cultural construction.

Even the USA had the slogan "America for the Americans" with the Monroe Doctrine to support independence movements all over the continent (that included South America for James Monroe).

Considering it two different continents is something really recent.

+2
Level 90
Apr 15, 2021
There's only two continents: America and Afro-Eurasia. Australia is an island and Antarctica doesn't count because it's mostly uninhabited.
+2
Level 55
Apr 15, 2021
It really just depends on how you define them. At that point, in my opinion, they just because pretty useless, so I generally consider there to be more.
+1
Level 59
Apr 15, 2021
Using the logic that it is mostly uninhabited is not logic at all. It is still a very large land mass, and population doesn't matter for continent qualification. Also, I think you need to check your definition of continents. They don't have to be separate land masses; they only have to be large ones very clearly distinguished. And also, saying that Australia is an island is like saying that the other continents you listed are islands or even Pangea.

North. Norway means "northern way". However, this quiz doesn't include countries with directions in their meanings, so

UK's official name actually is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and *Northern* Ireland", so it should be either added, already filled-in or excluded by a caveat.

It might also be interesting a version including Countries with "Cardinal Directions in their meaning":

- "Australia" means "Southern land",

- "Austria" means "Eastern March",

- "Norway" means "Northern way",

- "Tonga" means "South",

- "Vietnam" means "Viet South",

- "Yemen" means "South".

This quiz and virtually all quizzes on JetPunk are using the "short name" of the country (with the odd exceptions of the DRC, Republic of Congo, and Micronesia). If we used full official names then the UK would be on and North and South Korea would both be off. But it's not.
