The selection is a bit weird, as it isn't clear what do you mean by 'intervention'? For example, what kind of US intervention in Poland could be seen between 1980 and 1989? BTW: I guess you aren't a fan of 'so-called land of the free', but in those years 80 or 90 % of people would've been very happy if any US intervention had actually occured
Yes, so Afghanistan and Iraq are so happy by far? You think invasion is just for fun and games, but in reality it's often awful and bloody event to make some money
You're talking about invasions, but was there any (bloody or not) US military invasion in Poland in 1980s? Please learn some history and then we may discuss it.
Good point, I used several sources and it includes both military intervention and for example electoral intervention. And sure, you could argue that people in dictatorships would welcome foreign intervention, but the US has always done this to protect its own interests, not the interests of the people. A
i like it. I think you could just add this explanation about what is considered "intervention" to the caveat before the quiz (I know no one ever reads them beforehand, nonetheless...)
"the so called 'land of the free'" remark... was that supposed to make some sense? A global power struggle with the Soviet Union somehow made Americans less free?
Communism was never banned in America. We have no laws requiring or banning any economic system. Senator Joseph McCarthy held hearings searching for communists in Hollywood who could influence people, as a PR stunt to get attention UNTIL he was run out of town. Social media sites don't ban people for their opinions--they ban lies & those who spread disinformation, & as they do here & on most sites, those who speak of violence or insult people personally. Trump, MTG, & QAnon, all spread inaccurate info--they were warned repeatedly. DJT & MTG specifically posted disinformation about Covid-19. QAnon does little but spread disinformation--reptilians, blood-drinking (which makes people throw up, btw, not feel youthful or whatever), eating babies, conspiracies to market children, steal elections, or the most unlikely characters trying to save the world? Give me a break! Twitter & Twitch are privately owned sites, so no Constitutional limitations apply. They don't speak for "America" either.
mostly social media platforms ban people to protect their own butts and bottom line. but still bringing this up as a response to what I said is slightly ridiculous.
No it's not banned in america, but the communist party of the united states has fewer members than Rifondazione Comunista, that is one of the at least 10 italian communist parties
It is a reference to the United States always claiming to be the guardians of freedom, even though they intervene in democratic elections, practiced segregation until the 60s, persecuted dissidents and so on
I'm not going to talk smack about you on your own quiz but I'd encourage you to look up where the phrase originated, study the time period, and learn about what it actually meant in the greater context of the world of the early 19th century. From there... keep learning and many of these interventions and those that came before or since start to make a lot more sense.
Replacing a democratically elected government with a brutal military dictator in Chile and invading Vietnam who’s fighting against colonialism and committing war crimes in the process don’t make any sense to me at least.
Yeah, the US promotes itself as a defender of democracy, but our history is full of examples of us doing the opposite. During the Cold War we propped up several governments that were as brutal as any Communist regime.
Somalia, we could say that has been a U.N. effort (the U.S. was certainly a driving force in it).
