In English domestic football, the three major annual honours are the League Championship, the Football Association Cup and the League Cup. Additionally, the winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup compete for the Community Shield (called the Charity Shield until the 2002 edition). Can you name the active clubs that have received each?
The Football League championship was not contested until the 1888-89 season and the League (EFL) Cup competition was not launched until the 1960-61 season.
Clubs that do not compete in either the EFL or the Premier League are already populated in the table below. A dagger symbol (†) denotes clubs that no longer exist. Although Bury is 'dormant', it is counted among the defunct clubs.
A pink background denotes clubs based in Wales.
Early editions of the Charity Shield did not always follow the 'league champions v the FA Cup winners' model. Additionally, there were several instances where special teams of professionals and amateurs played each other for one-off Charity Shield matches. In 1950, the Charity Shield was contested between the England World Cup XI and the FA Canadian Touring Team. Lastly, in the event of a draw after full time, the Charity Shield could be shared between the competing clubs. This is indicated by a mint background.
