The Only Remaining European Country . . .

For each box, enter the only European country that fits the description excluding countries that have already appeared on the quiz.
For example, if the clue was "The only country whose name starts with R,'" and Romania had already appeared earlier on the quiz, the answer would be "Russia."
Any reference to city population refers to urban agglomeration population according to citypopulation.de

There's two answers "to host a Summer Olympics"; the Netherlands hosted the 1928 Olympics.

Well that's an embarrassing miss. I'll fix this soon. Just need to make sure I don't mess up any of the other answers in the process.

Fixed. Fortunately that wound up being simpler than I expected. Just needed to rearrange one answer.

Fun but exhaustive! However silly it may sound, but Monaco is also one of the Alpine countries along with Slovenia.

Interesting. I was using the Jetpunk quiz "Countries in the Alps" as a source, but I probably should have been using Wikipedia instead. Or at least have read the comments section on that quiz XD

There's two answers "To win more than 100 Winter Olympic medals" Austria and Bulgaria, and there's two answers "To not have red on their flag" Estonia and Kosovo

You're right about Kosovo, and I'll get to fixing that soon, but where are you getting more than 100 Winter Olympic medals for Bulgaria? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-time_Olympic_Games_medal_table has them at a grand total of 6.

North Macedonia also have multiple words in its common name, not just Czech Republic (which is also questionable since the name Czechia is now more used on JetPunk)

Fair points on both counts; I didn't think when I recently updated Macedonia to North Macedonia that it would invalidate an earlier clue. I'll try to get around to fixing this at some point, but at first glance it doesn't look like there are any easy fixes.

I found it a really confusing clue. Why is it "non-proper" English?

"Proper" here refers to proper noun. Looking back at the clue, I suppose it could be a little confusing. I can try to reword it.

Didn't Latvia, as Courland, own Tobago as a colony?
+1
Level 83
May 11, 2021
Yes, and (I now see) they had a few islands in the Gambia River as well. They don't appear to have controlled any of these places for more than 15 years or so. That doesn't exactly scream "colonial empire" to me.

If more people comment, I'll consider changing it, but I think it's fine as is for now.

You could argue that Courland was subbortinated to Poland, so it was Polish empire ;)

Ireland is the answer to "To have more than 2 Nobel Laureates in literature", so it should not be considered for any of the other three clues that you mention, which all come after that one.

I think counting Latvia as having a colonial empire would be interesting for the purposes of this quiz, sure it wasn't long-standing but it's not technically wrong, besides, it will make for an interesting fact for all the confused people who come to this comment section and learn about Courland.
