Please note that the estimates for the Californian settlements are based off estimates from this time period:

- San Francisco's records for the 1850 census were lost thus no official data for it exists, but it is estimated that 25,000 were living there by January 1850.

- Mokelumne Hill was another Gold Rush settlement that exploded in population. There is uncertainty about its estimated population at the time, but it is generally given to be around 15,000. As of the last time its population was recorded in the 2010 census, only 646 people lived in the town.

Awesome quiz. Funny to me how now-forgotten cities (such as Moyamensing, which dosen't even exist anymore) used to be bigger than Detroit or San Francisco.
