Guess the lyrics to the British national anthem (this is only the first verse as it is the only verse people sing and so as to be consistent with other national anthem quizzes).

Thy choicest gifts in store,

On him be pleased to pour,

Long may he reign!

May he defend our laws,

And ever give us cause,

To sing with heart and voice,

God save the King!

Yes, I also like the second verse, but to be consistent with the other national anthem quizzes (these ones), I have not included it. Also, RIP HM the Queen.

Still bugs me they didn’t fully revert to the pre-Elizabeth version that rearranges those last two lines to rhyme, thus:

With heart and voice to sing

God Save the King!

I feel this could have been done with the yellow select answer box instead, this felt too easy.

I am trying to be consistent with other national anthems quizzes, so I am keeping it like this.

A ghastly anthem, both words and tune - and I am British.

An anthem all about a god that half the country doesn't believe in and a insanely privileged King who does not represent the people of the UK.

doesn't really matter what the people believe because constitutionally it's a Christian nation

I like the tune, I just wouldn't like to have the word god in my anthem

Nominated. For consistency with e.g. the US anthems quiz, worth adding a note to clarify that this is just the first verse. (It's all that's usually sung, though the second verse, which someone has added in a comment, is often sung also at official occasions. There used to be another verse but was long ago ditched as being specifically English, and indeed anti-Scottish.)
