I got it on my fifth try or something. (well actually 2nd, the other times I used the map to fill all the states and get a game plan, but I couldnt visualise it well so did a few with half filled map to see if I used certain states what would be left (on untimed, I could ve gotten an atlas to study the map, but still in bed haha)
w/ 13 seconds remaining
Maine, Rhode Island, New York, Ohio, Iowa, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Utah, Montana, Oregon, Virginia, Georgia, Delaware, Alaska, Hawaii
typed in "south carolina" at like :02 lol
Update: Nevermind, finally got it with one second left.

Quite frustrating, especially for us non Americans who may well know all the states names but can't instantly place them on the map.
For instance, if you have already typed New Hampshire Maine will not be accepted, but you can type Maine then New Hampshire, and New Hampshire will fill in Vermont and Massachusetts.
here it is
there is no point leaving new hampshire out whatsoever or putting masschusetts in, there are many reasons though for leaving it out ( your computer doesnt get thrown out of the window for one thing.., there wont be a divorce, all plates will stay whole, you dont need to get the cat down from the ceiling, etc)
It took it without strategy a while ago and I had 43. This time I decided I needed a strategy, it only took a few mins to come up with one, and got it on the first attempt.
everyone has different ways to memorize. Alphabetically, regionally. Feelingwise (like some feel lighter brighter, whatever) rhythm, endletter. but I saw you could make words with the starting letter WACK COMP(uter) HANG. (I didnt do it that way personally though I grouped em by feeling) Maybe this will help some people :)
Adaho, Arizona, Georgia, Ohio (these four alone take out almost a half of the US).
101 character / 13 state route, did NOT wanna trype Massachusetts under pressure haha.
Hawaii alaska arkansas georgia iowa colorado oregon montana ohio maryland maine new york rhode island
EDIT: 17s left
i finished it with 17 seconds left
5 seconds left.
Idaho, Arizona, Minnesota, Missouri, Louisiana, Georgia, Michigan, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Alaska, Hawaii.
Not the fastest solution but worked from trial and error!
I got 20/50
I was surprised about Massachusetts and Delaware but after a few hours of logic this was the solution I found. States are listed roughly in the order I worked out that they needed to be present.
