Interview of a JetPunker #13 - Iluvbread123

+15

Hello dear JetPunkers!

I hope it wasn't too long: it's time for a new interview!

Except for the aliens, if you use JetPunk for at least one month, you surely know who is Iluvbread123, also called Bread, for his very interesting quizzes with SVGs, probably mostly for the quiz about countries ever controlled by French people. Do you want to know more about this unique user? So read this interview!

baptistegorce: Hi Bread! Would you like to be my 13th interviewee?

Bread: Hi Poirot! That sounds interesting, absolutely!

baptistegorce:  So let’s start this interview! First, could you present yourself on JetPunk quickly for our readers who don’t know you?

Bread: Hey world! I am Iluvbread123 on JetPunk, or just Bread for short. I am a 15 year old from Taizhou, Zhejiang living in Dubai. I like geography, history, computer science and maths. I discovered the site on March 2nd, 2020 if I recall correctly and posted my first quiz in April that year. Some may remember me from the spotlights I've had or perhaps the few blogs I've made.

baptistegorce:  You live Dubai, UAE, and that’s not at all the most common place of living on JetPunk. What can you say about this city? Does it change something on JetPunk, in your opinion? Why?

Bread:   I'm perhaps one of the few (or maybe even only?) active users in the Middle East. Dubai is a rather stunning city and is a cool spot for tourists. It inspired me to make a few quizzes but none of them are exactly known, so it hasn't really done much to my experience on JetPunk.

baptistegorce: As you said in one of your blogs, you are currently “swimming in takes”. Can you quickly explain how? What do you feel, seeing it?

Bread: So, around the end of 2020, I came up with the idea of "All Modern-Day Countries Ever Controlled by Chinese People". I released that quiz on January 25th this year and it instantly became my most nommed quiz. Seeing that success, I made a sequel to that about French people, which worked out really well too. Then I went onto making more of that series...

Then in March came the spotlight system. I've already made a few quizzes of this series at this point. On the first day of the system being live, my quiz about Turkic people was spotlighted. I gained about 350 takes that day and 20 noms from that and was super happy. But to my surprise, the French control quiz was spotlighted on the third day. That quiz already had around 40 noms before the spotlight and that just pushed it till around 65 noms. Since it was then at the top of the nomination leaderboards, it was only a bit of waiting till I got my feature. The week that happened, Quizmaster featured the top 5 quizzes rather than the usual top 3, making my quiz the first on that page.

Then it was just all great, I got my first feature (and a second, a translation of that quiz). I was super excited when I saw that orange star popped up next to the title. But soon I realized it probably wasn't as fun as I initially expected. Feature means more people notice your quiz and hence more people to point out the existing errors. I had a few obscure mistakes in that map and since it is now featured, I can't update it too often in order to prevent resetting the stats. For a few days I was scared of reading the load of new comments. But by now, it's all good.

baptistegorce: How did you create the quiz about countries controlled by French people, which made you more famous on JetPunk? How did you get inspiration?

Bread: You can kinda say that I was inspired by IAB's "Modern Day Countries of Empires" series. I really liked those quizzes but I noticed that those quizzes were solely about their greatest extent. I initially had the idea for Chinese people, and that did pretty well. I was super glad with how that went and immediately started digging through Wikipedia for information about other ethnic groups and decided to do it for French people.

baptistegorce: How did you learn to create SVGs? Did you get some help?

Bread: I did indeed learn from people. I initially tried learning from SWATkun but I didn't really understand it since i was rather clueless about SVGs as a whole. I gave up on SVGs for a bit and later on, I started using the dot placer tool. It is really helpful and saves loads of time (especially for newbies like me back then). I made my first big quiz (Every City in China on a Map) with the help of Fuse. I gained a good load of positive feedback there and learnt how great SVGs are in painting one's picture. I then proceeded to ask for help every once in a while on the JetPunk Discord server. Many such as Stewart, BolyaiAnna and MiracleMax reached out to me, but the most important tip was arguably the one from Max. From his tip, I learnt to divide objects and with that in mind I finally made the quiz on modern-day countries controlled by Chinese people.

baptistegorce: Can you say more about Breaddhish and Breaddhism? Why “bread” in your nickname?

Bread: The bread part first came from Minecraft Pocket Edition. I had to create an Xbox account to play on servers with a friend so I had to come up with a random name. I went with the first thing I thought of - Iluvbread123 - and then that alias just kinda stuck there.

As for the Breaddism stuff, it is pretty much an inside joke where I declared to be the "Breaddha" - the father of all Breads. In that I established a Breaddhish Empire, with its official religion being Breaddhism, its official language as well as demonym being Breaddhish.

Also, Brad tried eating me in the "Breadble", and hence became the enemy of this religion.

baptistegorce: Which of your quizzes do you feel most proud of?

Bread: Probably the "Countries of Asia in 1300 on a Map", that thing took me quite a while to make and is by far the highest effort quiz under my profile.

baptistegorce: Do you have big projects of quizzes in preparation?

Bread: Currently, apart from updating the colossal Chinese cities quiz, there's no huge projects upcoming. I do, however, have one SVG quiz planned, just not too large-scale.

baptistegorce: What is the most important event in your own life of JetPunker?

Bread: Probably the spotlight feature being released. That system carried me really hard and I went from being known by no one apart from server members to being a top #1000 quiz-maker.

baptistegorce: If you had to resume your JetPunk adventure in one word, what would it be?

Bread:  I guess I'll go with "coaster". There's been ups and downs in all along but in general it's brilliant and you won't regret hopping on it.

baptistegorce:  If you had to choose just three JetPunker for their quizzes, who will it be?

Bread: Stewart, IAB and Dekkie, they are all super talented. Stewart often comes up with creative concepts and presents us with great end-products. Dekkie makes great historical quizzes and both her and IAB excell at making gargantuan SVGs.

I can go as far as saying them surprising us with cool content really isn't surprising anymore.

baptistegorce: And for their blogs?

Bread: You, Stewart and Jiaozira. To start off, I love the interviews. It's always nice to know how individual users within the community think. Stewart's blogs are generally about the website itself and they contain some information you wouldn't see elsewhere. Jiaozira, although not an active blogger, makes some of my favorite informative blogs. You can't say no to his "Which Language is the Absolute Easiest to Learn?" blog, it's a masterpiece.

baptistegorce: Thank you!  And what are your passions in life, except JetPunk?

Bread: That would be Minecraft, and by pretty far. I love this game and I don't remember the last time I went one week without playing it. Definitely the best $27 i spent.

baptistegorce:  You are on the JetPunk Discord server. How did you join it, and what do you think about it?

Bread: I've found the link to it on April 5th last year on either Reddit or the contact page (I don't remember exactly) and I joined immediately. I found it fun and became an active member. A lot have changed throughout this whole year I've been here, but this community has always remained wholesome, accepting and helpful.

baptistegorce:  What do you hope for JetPunk development in the next months?

Bread: Honestly, I don't know. Generally, I am terrible at expecting an update on the site since I'm not that creative in this matter. But, I'm sure Quizmaster and Stewart wouldn't fail to surprise us with epic big brain changes.

baptistegorce: Do you have a message to pass to the whole JetPunk community (or at least to the few users reading these blogs…)?

Bread: Some genuine (and hopefully not harsh) advice: Don't spam quizzes and accept criticism. Those are important stuff to note when making a quiz and I constantly find a small number of users unwilling to adapt to that. I hope that helps c:

baptistegorce: It's the end of the interview. I hope you enjoyed. Thank you a lot for the time you spent answering all of these questions! All your answers are really interesting and complete.

Bread: Thanks for the interview :D 'twas a great experience!

I hope you enjoyed this 13th interview. You can consult the rest of the series here. The next interview should be with a WITJ, so get ready.

Before ending this blog, I would like to write an important note: the RUB section is, in my opinion, a place to post works of quality, like the recent users created quizzes section. So please, before publishing something, try to know if it's at least bit interesting. A quiz or blog created/written in less than 5 minutes is probably not a huge effort work... I hope you will understand.

Thank you a lot for reading, and have a nice day!

Thanks for the advice. I shall now create your official holy worship:

I praise you, O' holy Breddha, for the bread you cast;

Deep into the creases of Breaven;

I praise you, O' holy Breddha, for the crust you baked;

Within the oven of no distaste;

I praise you, O' holy Breddha, for the maps you made;

Displaying the wonder of multiple cultures;

And now, on April 23rd;

I give you my humblest of thanks;

For the times I was brought from starvation;

With bread, O' divine bread;

that brings out all the awing voices

He chooses some JetPunkers for be interviewed. Mainly, famous JetPunkers, who highlight in something, like quizzes, SVGS, blogs, or are in a good moment. He sometimes also do the WITJ - Who Is This JetPunker, when he chooses a random JetPunker and say tips for we find this JetPunker. Who find who Baptiste chose, her an interview. He normally contacts on Discord, but he do another ways sometimes.

Oh don't worry or feel bad

I was still really new to quiz-making at the time and SVGs weren't really for me. If I couldn't understand how it works why would I just waste an opportunity for this community to have another nice quiz, right?

Honestly, I regret nothing. I'm pretty proud of the progress I've made. I've started a fairly popular series on the website and earned 2 features from that. I'd say I'm more glad with my current situation than what I could've earned if I did end up making that.

Also, if I were to make that, I don't really think it's gonna be featured XD
