Honourable Mentions
Before we move on to charts, let's have a look at some interesting facts about these 57 players of Geography Snap :
Dagod is the only player who have been on multiple leaderboards and stayed at the same rank every time (3rd by the way, which is very impressive on its own).
cooladri, Penguinish, Tomi27 and zakatan are the only players who have ever been on the 21st place.
Jilb is the only player who entered and got ousted of the leaderboard twice.
Albmaralb, Jato, MarkScholten and Stewart are the only players who have been on all 12 leaderboards and whose number of points only fluctuated twice.
Chaddius is the last player who got higher on the leaderboard (in January).
MarinaMiller is the player who lost the most ranks in a single month : 5 (in July).
Dontforget is the player who went up the most ranks in a single month 9 (in August).
boepnx77 is the only player who got on only one leaderboard that wasn't in June.
And now, let's talk charts !
Let's start with a very simple chart : the number of different people in each leaderboard, along the number of ranks :
No real correlation can be found between the number of people and the number of ranks. Now, here is a chart of the evolution of the number of points of the 10 best players by total number of points (complicated, uh ?) :
Here is a chart of the number of people who got into and got ousted off the leaderboard :
Note that this also account people who got ousted of a leaderboard and got back in later. Now here is a chart of the biggest points gains and losses per blog :
Don't ask me why this looks like a bird flying. Let's now move on to bar charts ! First, here is a chart of the biggest and lowest number of points every 57 players ever had :
And finally, here is a chart of the number of people whose number of points went up, down or stayed the same from one blog to another :
Now, let's move on to statistics more about Geography Snap ! Don't worry, charts aren't over yet. Let's start with some quick numbers about the World Records that have been broken in the last 12 months ! Quick note before though : World Records in game modes created on November 21st weren't accounted.
240,6 seconds have been cut off from the sum of World Records.
There has been 138 days with at least one improvement on a World Record, 72 of them with more than 1 second cut off of the sum of World Records.
At least one improvement was done during 14 days in a row. That happened between June 10th and June 23rd 2022.
In contrast, the longest time period with no improvements at all lasted for 34 days, between March 13th and April 15th 2023.

Of course, this blog would be useless without a chart of the evolution of the sum of World Records :
And here is a chart of the evolution of the average number of seconds cut off on each day since June 1st, 2022 :
Let's now look at some facts about the 45 old game modes of Geography Snap :

A Retrospective...
June
The first month of that year, the beginning of everything, and a very good month in terms of World Records.
June 1st
The first day of this 1-year period, that's important on its own, although no World Records were broken on that day (which is weird considering at least one has been broken the 2 days before and after it).
June 10th - June 23rd
This is the first and the longest "WR streak" that happened during that year. A "WR" streak is when at least one World Record is improved every day for at least 5 days in a row. And indeed, at least one World Record was improved every day from June 10th to June 23rd, with a total of 25.7 seconds that got cut off in that 2-weeks period.
June 11th
On that day was created the Geography Snap Crew, a JetPunk group about Geography Snap, which as of today has 43 members.
June 22nd
The best day of June in terms of seconds cut off from the sum of World Records : 7 seconds.
July
This month was way chiller than June, not that much to say about it.
July 1st
The first day of this month is also the best, with 6.4 seconds cut off from the sum of World Records. On that day too, the World Record for the most number of World Records at the same time was broken, and I became the first person to have 30 World Records at the same time (which didn't last long, you'll see).
July 12th
On that day, a player named MarcelVos broke the World Record for Shapes Hard, with a 14.8s. This is the last time someone other than Changedaworld or me breaks a World Record before a long time.
July 17th - July 23rd
If you consider that weeks start on Sunday and end on Saturday, then this is the first week with no improvements on any World Record.
July 31st
The first Geography Snap Statistics blog came out.
August
That month has been good except for one day that was basically the best of the year.
August 1st
It seems that the first day of each month is quite important... Anyway, on that day, the sum of World Records went below 500 seconds.
August 5th - August 11th
This is the second WR streak, with 21.2 seconds cut off in 1 week.
August 9th
This day has been so incredible it deserved its own blog. Loads of World Records were broken that day, and 12.1 seconds have been cut off, making it the best day of this whole year in terms of seconds cut off.
September
This month is the second best of the year, with a lot of days where more than 1 second have been cut off.
September 17th & September 19th
These days were very good, with 12 seconds cut off on September 17th and 9.1 seconds on September 19th. On September 17th too, the last player who had a World Record, anahita, lost it, meaning that from this day on, every World Record was detained by either Changedaworld or me.
September 18th
The 24,999,999th and 25,000,000th tiles have been matched.
October
This was the first very chill month, with only two big events.
October 22nd
albinruler becomes the first person to match 1,000,000 tiles.
October 30th
Changedaworld becomes the first person to have 40 World Records at the same time.
November
This month reignited the flame of the Revolution, with a World Record broken 2 out of 3 days.
November 8th - November 14th
This is the third WR streak, this time with only 12.7 seconds cut off in 1 week.
November 11th
The sum of World Records goes below 400 seconds.
November 17th
Sammyboi breaks the World Record in Countries, Capitals & Flags with a 18.1s. This is the first time since 4 months that someone who's not Changedaworld or me breaks a World Record. Sadly for them, their record was broken a few hours later.
December
Quite a good month, a lot of events happened in it.
December 2nd - December 6th
This is the fourth WR streak, with 8.6 seconds cut off.
December 11th
The 29,999,999th and 30,000,000th tiles have been matched.
December 13th - December 18th
This is the fifth WR streak, with 8.4 seconds cut off.
December 20th
The sum of World Records goes below 6 minutes.
December 25th
Changedaworld claims 7 World Records back. The fact that this happened on Christmas was quite memey at the time.
December 26th
albinruler becomes the first player to play 50,000 games.
December 27th
I break the World Record for the biggest number of tiles matched in a single day by the same person : 51,200 (yes I spent several hours just for that).
December 31st
I become the second player to match 1,000,000 tiles (now you understand why I spent a day matching 51k tiles).
January
The Revolution started to go down, yet a lot of World Records were still broken.
January 1st
The first World Record of the year, just 20 minutes after the New Year.
January 7th - January 8th
On that week-end, 9.6 seconds were cut off. Yes that's it, I just find it cool.
February
This is the last month of the Revolution. A lot of World Records were broken, but this is the last month where that would the case.
February 10th - February 14th
This is the sixth and last WR streak, with only 2.7 seconds cut off.
February 17th - February 20th
Although this is not a WR streak, 10.7 seconds have been cut off in these 4 days.
February 19th
Changedaworld becomes the first player to have had the World Record in every game mode at some point in time.
March, April & May
I grouped these 3 months together as they were the "worst" of them all. A few events happened during that period though.
March 13th - March 19th
If you consider on the other side that weeks start on Monday and end on Sunday, then this is the first week with no improvements on any World Record.
March 13th - August 15th
This is the longest time period with no improvements on any World Record : 34 days.
April 19th
DiFontaine becomes the third player to match 1,000,000 tiles.
May 28th
The first glitchless sub-2s is done.
Final Words
In conclusion, this year has been amazing for Geography Snap. That adventure was unexpected, but is among the best experiences I had in my life. It's not only about breaking World Records, it's also about a community, a motivation to beat another one in a friendly versus. On my side, Geography Snap brings me real emotions. Yes I did cry of joy when I broke a WR after multiple days and hundreds of tries. Sometimes nothing happened, sometimes a lot. Like in speedrunning, the limits are never where you think they are. This year demonstrated it, it was truly a roller-coaster of surprises, unexpected moments, and new friendships emerged. I cannot really describe how incredible that period of time was to me. Just thinking of it gives me goosebumps, although that happened just one year ago ! Of course the next year won't be the same, but we can still hope. I wish that someday, someone comes to the great world of Geography Snap, and lives beautiful moments like a lot of players did. I wish that the magic in this game continues for a long time, and that the future generations of players will enjoy it as much as I did.
Bravo, thanks again and excellent continuation to you!
