Administrative division of Poland - from January 1, 1999, the country has a three-tier administrative division:
• 16 voivodships (as of January 1, 2017):
• 380 poviats, including 314 so-called "Land poviats", which gather from a few to a dozen neighboring communes and 66 "urban poviats" (cities with poviat rights - i.e. communes with the status of a city performing poviat tasks),

Poland is a lowland country; areas below 300 m above sea level constitute 91.3% of the area (including depressions 0.2%); average height 173 m (Europe - 330 m). The highest point is Rysy in the High Tatras - 2499 m, the lowest - a point west of the village of Raczki Elbląskie - 1.8 m above sea level; Poland's surface is sloped from south to northwest. In Poland, there is a belt system of surface formations (from the south):
The mountain belt consists of two mountain ranges: the Carpathians and the Sudetes. The Sub-Carpathian Basin belt is a depression of the area consisting of the Sandomierz Basin and the Oświęcim Basin. The highland belt consists of the Silesian Upland, the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and the Małopolska Upland (which is the Kielce Upland, Lublin Upland with Roztocze in the east). The Świętokrzyskie Mountains are located in the Kielce Upland. The lowland belt is a vast area that consists of three main parts: Niziny Środkowopolskie, lake districts and coasts.
The Central Poland Lowlands include: the Silesian Lowland, the South Pomeranian Lowlands, the Mazowieckie Lowlands, the South Podlasie Lowlands, the North Podlasie Lowlands and the Lublin Polesie. The lake district includes, among others Pomeranian Lakelands, Masurian Lakelands, Suwałki Lakelands and Greater Poland Lakelands. A narrow coastal strip stretches along the shores of the Baltic Sea. This belt covers the Szczecin Coast, the Koszalińskie Coast and the Gdansk Coast.
