Good geography websites

Geography websites

Geography websites are probably the best way to learn about geography, especially if they're good ones! Some geography websites educate through map quizzes, with others are in question form. Anyway, recently I've discovered how little geography websites there are, so here are some good ones I found. But,  make sure to keep in mind that we all already know of the best geoography website, that is Jetpunk of course! Make sure to look at the end of each topic foor a link to the website. None of the websites are put in any order. (Sporcle will not be mensioned.)

Seterra

Seterra really feels like a premium website. The colors are really nice and, as it suggests, offers over 400 quizzes in 40 languages. The website also sponsered Geography Now!

Lizard Point

Lizard Point is very similar to Jetpunk, but it is more directed towards total education than fun. It allows multiple versions of map quizzes to be played, such as practice, test, and strict test. One thing I don't like about Lizard Point, however, is that ther doesn't appear to be an option to create your own quiz.

Geoguessr

Geoguessr is an online geography website and app that throws you into a random place on the globe (you can specify region of just go whole world mode), and your job iis to look at the clues, and guess where you are. The website allows players with regular profiles, 1 game a day, and premium players, as many as they want.

City Guesser

City Guesser is a free version oof Geoguessr, where you watch a video, and guess where the video is taken in.

It's so satisfying filling out the map with cities. I like how the results are saved even when you close the tab.

There is a website almost identical to Geoguessr that is completely free, (it asks for donations similar to Wikipedia), it is called Geotastic.

I first used Setarra before JetPunk (for about a week), but it was really hard to navigate and it was mostly map quizzes. Plus it was laggy and there was about a second wait before the country showed green after typing it. There also aren’t enough type-ins.

I used Seterra before JetPunk as well. Their type-in system was/is horrible! Back when I used it, china would be incorrect for China, ie, it was case-sensitive. But it had a huge collection of map quizzes which when to compared to JetPunk at that time, was a plus point.

Yeah, for example you have to type Omsk Oblast because just Omsk would not work. But their pin mode is definitely fun and unique.

It is really laggy on older devices, so JetPunk is far better!

Geoguessr is a lot of fun, and the average Jetpunk veteren would have an edge going in. Sometimes, it all comes down to that one flag you saw, or a random city name on a road sign.

City Guesser is a pretty novel site. It's great to try once or twice, however it suffers from needing users to submit their own videos. As a result, you really only get bigger centres in the most internet savy countries. Also, sometimes the algorithm makes mistakes. I played the Canada map and half the videos were coming from London (UK), because the game confused it with London, Ontario. Still a great site, and one I reccommend any geography-lover to try it at least once :)
