Origin of the Name
The Republic of the Congo is named after the Congo River, whose name is derived from Kongo, a Bantu kingdom which occupied its mouth around the time of its discovery by the Portuguese in 1483.
Flag
The flag of the Republic of the Congo uses the Pan-Africanist movement colors and is the only one that utilizes a diagonal pattern. It's pretty simple, just a yellow diagonal band from the bottom left to the upper right, dividing 2 triangles - the upper one being green and the lower one being red. The green symbolizes the agriculture and forests. The yellow represents the friendship and nobility of the people. And the red one is unexplained and doesn’t have an official description. Nobody knows the meaning of the red!

Congo first met Europeans in the 15th century with the arrival of Portuguese travelers and traders from the mouth of the Congo river. The Kingdom of Congo, which dominated this region at that time, engaged in commercial activities with Portuguese merchants. And then colonized by Portugal and France. In 1960, Congo became an independent nation but in the late 20th century it started to be ruled by communism. And finally in 1992, after the fall of Soviet Union, Congo became an democratic republic.
