Jordan's mustache extends over his entire upper lip and slightly over the corners of his mouth - it is "untrimmed." It begins about halfway between his nose and lip and is somewhat sparse.
The Hitler mustache is completely different. It is bushy, starts right under the nose, is trimmed on the sides so that it is almost square.
I agree. I don't usually complain about the quiz clues, but that's ridiculous. Not only was Michael Jordan not known for his mustache, in no way, shape or form does his mustache even slightly remind anyone of Hitler's.
I DID do a Google search, and it's not even close. You might as well have compared it to Captain Kangaroo.
It's not difficult to find a picture of Jordan with a Hitler mustache. It's not quite as wide and no where near as bushy, but I think it's a fair comparison. I also missed that question.
Gonna have to weigh in and agree with the 'nothing like Hitler' camp on this one. After doing a picture search, none of the results returned images of Jordan sporting anything remotely similar to that style of mustache. I suppose, if you added 'Hitler' to the search it *might* yield results.
I'd also agree with Slipsteen, Jordan was never known for his 'stache.
Almost everyone who saw Jordan in that Hanes commericial where he was first sporting the Hitler 'stache was thinking the same thing. Namely: omg... Jordan is bringing back the Hitler moustache! (and) maybe the only guy who could do it...
Apparently the Jordan toothbrush moustache stems from some commercial for a company I've never heard of. Never would've guessed it. A fine and particularly extreme and hilarious example of the toothbrush is of course worn by nutty dictator Robert Mugabe. As for who was the first wearer of this type of moustache, Chaplin or Hitler, the answer is unambigously Chaplin. Chaplin certainly had one in early 1914 in the first appearences in the tramp character. Hitler was still wearing a kaiser moustache when he was shipped to the front in late 1914. During WW1 he than switched to a chevron style first. Some say he adopted a tootbrush still during WW1, others say only after the war. Anyhow, Chaplin grew one earlier. I know much to much about this subject.
It doesn't matter who grew the moustache first, Chaplin first appeared with it way before Hitler was a public figure or famous enough to have influenced his look. "The Tramp" was introduced to the world in 1914, when Hitler was just a soldier (and photos of him from that time actually show him with a regular-looking moustache).
If someone as famous is Michael Jordan is an answer on a quiz and only 21% of people got him, that means it's a bad hint. There's really no way to argue that.
Jordan is very famous but his moustache is much less famous. Of the 21% of people who even knew he had one, probably 99% thought of Hitler when they saw it, making it a good clue on a quiz about men with moustaches.
Being British and having no interest in professional basketball, I remembered something about an American Basketball player having a "hitler-esque" mustache but couldn't quite remember the name. When I saw the answer I did remember Michael Jordan, but though of him because of the hint.
Google the Hanes "bacon collar" ads, specifically the one on the plane, and yeah, it's a Hitler 'stache. The only difference is Jordan's doesn't grow above halfway between the lip and nose, but it's shaved so it is smooth outside of maybe 3/4 of an inch under his nose at that time. Comedians all over the place were commenting on it at the time, so it was something he was known for, at least for a time.
If you're going to allude to Jordan's moustache in the Hanes' commercial, refer to him as a Hanes pitchman. The clue "basketball legend with Hitler-like 'stache" is misleading. During his playing days, Jordan's moustache looked like what a desperate teenager might attempt to grow. Barely perceptible peach fuzz. Certainly nothing that would make him a moustache icon.
I kept trying Larry Bird, whose moustache actually DID look Hitler-esque, just lighter-colored. Only other "legendary" player I could think of that notably had a moustache was "Pistol" Pete Maravich.
Great quiz, but 1 particularly weak clue, especially when there are so many other options.
I'm sorry to confess that I tried William Penn first. Then I remembered that he didn't do so many television commercials, and after looking it up I realize it's not even his picture on the box. Oh, well.
I thought they meant the actual Quaker Oats guy, like the Quaker pictured on their products. I was suddenly concerned that he had an actual name, and I was like, how did I not know this?? What is it? I thought it was just "Quaker Oats guy". Turns out not only was the clue not about him, but he doesn't even have a mustache anyway!
For the "silent film star" - I eventually got Chaplin, but Douglas Fairbanks (senior) also had a mustache and was quite famous for it and his dashing exploits on film. I entered his name multiple times (thinking you wanted Fairbanks, or Fairbanks Senior, of Douglas Fairbanks Senior, or Sr. or... before thinking of Chaplin, but you might want to refine the clue a bit. I thought "comic" might work but then there were several of them with mustaches as well...Good quiz though.
Michael Jordan with a Hitler mustache? Ron Burgundy as the most trusted man in America? This quiz is really messing with what I thought I knew about reality.

Please come up with a better clue.

Norm MacDonald's on Jordan's Hitler moustache
That wasn't as hard as you made it sound, kenpo.
