I have to agree with BlendedCow here...It is obvious that you are looking for salmon, but the way the question is worded would make fish technically a correct answer as well because you haven't specified you are looking for a species, just an animal (which fish can be classified as)...Maybe replace with "...are varieties of what species of animal?"
Salmon is technically a family, and the different types are sub-families if you want to get really specific.
I know this is an old comment, but unfortunately the above wording would be incorrect, as coho, sockeye and chinook salmon are different species, not "varieties of a species of animal". Similarly, salmon aren't "technically a family"--what we call salmon span genera, and the family Salmonidae contains char, trout and other fish which are not salmon.
There is no taxon that is "salmon", and no "technical" way of answering this question, which is fine as-is. It's not necessary to contort the question to exclude "marine" or "vertebrate" or "fish" or "edible" even though you can imagine a way in which these are correct. The question invites you to guess a category based on examples--the best answer is "salmon".
Weird thing, but I've remembered the name of two humped camels since elementary school because I always think of it as "Back-train" instead of "Bactrian". Like train cars on its back!
But if you know surf, you know surfing, and if surf isn't accepted, it's not gonna hurt you to type three extra letters. The sport is referred to as surfing, not surf. Golf and basketball are golf and basketball, but surfing is surfing, just like curling, bowling, and fencing.
Can we have "Spectrum" be acceptable for colors of the rainbow? I thought of it as the light spectrum, which is basically what it is when viewed through a prism. A rainbow is a large form of viewing the spectrum.
I did commit a typo putting Pessah, but anyways, since Passover is also called Pesakh, Pesach or Pesah, I think it should all be accepted. I don't know if the typo was the problem or the Hebrew name is not included at all.
Remembering things in their syllables helps. Beth-le-hem. Hem reminds of heim which means home. Bethlehem means house of bread (just looked that part up, interesting to know). Nothing to do with the memory aid of heim-home above. Because (as I ve just learned) bet=house and lékhem=bread
did not know Kardashian. Only 3% of people didn't know that. I'm either stupid, or smart enough to avoid that media entirely. Actually was shocked it had such a high percentage.
I was about to do that, then had a brainwave and typed 'rainbow', then shed a little tear for those who did actually type the whole thing. I agree the long form should be accepted, mabe even a bonus point!
I saw "Dorothy's dog" as "Dorothy's song", then proceeded to type "Over the Rainbow", which gave me another answer. I'm not sure what to think about that

'cycling' not 'cycle'
'skateboarding' not 'skateboard'
'mountain climbing' not 'mountain climb'
'surfing' not 'surf'
'surf' just means that area of the sea by the coast where waves break.
Spelling sucks!
