Consider accepting just "opera house" for the Sydney Opera House as you accept "leaning tower" without Pisa and "empire state" without building.

And Liberty without the statue of as it's clearly a statue
+4
Level 67
Jul 16, 2018
why would Giza be accepted? Giza is a city that happens to house the Great Pyramids. That would be akin to QM accepting Pisa for the leaning tower. It's the monuments that matter not where they are located that should be accepted. That 's why Leaning Tower and Great Pyramids were both acceptable answers.
+4
Level 40
Jul 16, 2018
You got it wrong BiggieSmalls, Giza got it's name from the Giza plateau, not the other way around. The city exist because the Giza plateau and the great pyramids are there and have been for the last five millennia.

opera house is not very specific, unlike the leaning tower, there are plenty famous ones around the world. But I think that "Sydney Opera" should be accepted.
+3
Level 72
Jul 5, 2018
To be fair, "opera house" is quite specific. It's not like it's an office building or museum.
+1
Level 67
Jul 16, 2018
"Opera house" is still not nearly as specific as "Leaning Tower." You say the latter to anyone, and there's an extremely good chance they'd think of the one in Pisa. You say "opera house" to someone, they may think of Sydney, but there's also an extremely good chance they'd think of a more local one instead. I, for instance, live in Baltimore, and would immediately think of the Lyric.*

*Nobody calls it "The Modell Performing Arts Center." Everyone still calls it "The Lyric Opera House." Hell, it's still on the side of the building.

opera house Sydney does not work. Neither did Pisa tower. Could you change this ?
+6
Level 57
Jul 18, 2018
Why would Opera House Sydney work? It's called the Sydney Opera House. There's an awful lot of people wanting to be spoon-fed on this site. If your first attempt doesn't work, engage brain and think, and try a different variation; after all, it's not as though you only get one attempt for each landmark.
+1
Level 67
Jul 18, 2018
I would agree with on trying on different variation, and that's what I usually do also for what I'm going to point out: in Italy it's widely and only referred as the "Tower of Pisa", no one every says "leaning tower".

I drove all that distance myself. Except across the Atlantic Ocean. And that was somewhere between $700-$1200 one way, I think.
